Hello,

I am new here ... and new to ebook readers. I had been resisting the entire technology ... mostly because when I first heard about ereaders, like the Sony, they were very expensive, and I felt that I could purchase a LOT of books for that price.

Well ... this past weekend, after a visit to Chapters/Indigo ... I caved and purchased the Kobo. Despite also purchasing 4 new paperbacks ... I also had to go and purchase a book from Kobo ... and I'm astonished by how much I like this device!

Now I'm trying to learn about how to "borrow" books from libraries [so far my local library doesn't have a whole lot that I want to read on ebooks ... but they DO have an impressive catalogue of audio books ... ]

At any rate ... I have a lot to learn about this new toy of mine and hoping that I'll learn a great deal from the more seasoned members here.

Oh ... I'm in my late 50s ... married ... one son and two step-daughters and one beautiful granddaughter!

You may or may not already know this, but if you've a Kobo, then you're not limited to just shopping at the Kobo store.

You can also shop at the Sony Reader store and any other place which sells ePub and PDF ebooks which use the Adobe Digital Editions DRM copy-protection, or no DRM at all. Some of them even offer promotional free books, which you might want to check the Deals, Freebies, and Resources forum for.

And of course there's places like Project Gutenberg (which even has a special Canadian annex) that offer free public domain books if you want to read the classics. And of course our very own MobileRead members take the time to hand-format some of them for better display, and you can browse all their contributions here.
