OK, end of the financial year coming up. How much did you actually make through sales of your books? Gross, never mind the time and money spent promoting them (not to mention writing them).

I don't mind starting off. I made a grand total of... five pounds! And actually I was dead chuffed.

About 70p (£1 donation less Paypal costs). It was all the encouragement I needed. The first million is always the hardest.

I made $43 from March when I started out to the end of December, which ain't bad considering it comes in $0.35 at a time. At the rate I'm selling this quarter I stand to almost triple that this year (knocks on wood).

I've made three or four hundred dollars, but most of this has come from the one book (see Avatar). I do write other stuff under other pen names and if I just counted that, it would be about thirty to forty dollars.

And am I pleased? You bet. It's coming in at the rate of about $50 a week at the moment.

At the moment I'm averaging 70,00 € a week. But the numbers keep changing. Actually I'm surprised I'm doing this well (though I know it's not all that much). Whether it will last is another question.

Right now I'm averaging about a dollar a day in royalties from sales. Doesn't seem like much but if that kept up it would be a tidy little sum over time. Most of that is from one book (my Vietnam memoir), so if I could get even just one more to that level I would be very pleased.

I have yet to sell anything but I will never forget the 1st time I saw my name in print as the author of a poem in an Anthology. It was my poem "Cupid" which I posted in the User Poetry thread not long ago.
