Firmware Update Kindle 2 (US) Update To 2.5.6

I recently purchased the refurb Kindle 2 for $110. Yesterday I got the update to 2.5.4 pushed to me. While in the settings today I noticed that it said another update was available and so I applied it. Once the Kindle restarted it showed version 2.5.6. I have attached a photo showing this. The update process went by EXTREMELY quickly (probably 30-45 seconds) so it must have been a very small update. For the record, I can't notice any difference whatsoever between the 2.5.4 and the 2.5.6 updates so I don't know what they might have changed.

Ha. I just read your post and reached over and turned on the wireless on my new refurbished K2. After about 2 minutes it did a software update, and it's now 2.5.6 also. Thanks for the tip!

i wonder if they affected jailbreaking. i tried the jailbreak (first time ever), and it failed (as expected, i think, for 2.5). then i tried the usbnet hack (v. 0.5 from the "restore networking on DX" (or somesuch) thread, and it too failed. so i'm suspicious. (or, i could have made a mistake.)

No, it didn't affect anything. It's just a journal/version bumping update, like the 2.5.3 was for the k2i. The real fixes were in the 2.5.4, which, AFAIK, didn't break current jailbreaking methods. Your usbnet install failed because you were trying to install a hack not packaged for v2.5.
