ASUS DR-950 a Grey Rival to the DX Graphite

I wonder if the soon-to-be-released AUS-DR-950 priced at around $200 isn't a much better buy. Basic specs include 9 inch screen, SD card slot, WiMAX, supports PDF, HTML and ePub files, better handling of folders/collections etc and wait for it ..... it's GREY!!! :-)

It's what I was thinking of, too, about the other Asus device :

Hi all,

this device seems to have a lot to commend it - nice large screen, light weight, and attractive features.

If it does retail for USD$200, then it may well give other brands a battering.

Any release date known, even approximate?

Cheers,

I would most certainly buy the Asus if I were looking for a larger ebook. Asus makes excellent motherboards and computers.

Like Confucius said "When!?"... well... he didn't, but well you get the idea... WHEN!? At least Asus is more reliable than some Plastic Logically impaired company.

This device seems a vaporware. I really wonder whether it will be released or not.

Yup. I think, though, that it's not as much Asus that causes the delay as it is SiPix that has problems delivering the screens. And I haven't heard a peep from them...

That's why I just pulled the trigger on a DX Graphite. Which, in turn, probably means the DR-900 (or -950 or whatchamacallit) will be loosed on the world tomorrow

I'm not so sure that it's vaporware. It's got everything the KDX can provide and more. I can see it being successful. In any case, it's only a matter of time that 9 inch rivals will challenge the DX, and pretty shocking that the best Amazon could come up in a year was a 2.5 update with collections, a grey shell, and better contrast. It sounds suicidal to me.

I use an ASUS laptop and it has been fine so far. I think people have a certain healthy skepticism about ANY unreleased product these days.

Release it into the free market and I will begin to praise it. Until then it is just an idea that someone has spent money on. Competition will be good for us all, whatever device we use.

Well I like the idea of this device, but as others said: when can I buy it?? I have patience, but this product (as other possible competitors) is going to loose its momentum if it doesn't come out to the market quickly.

With tablets taking over a lot of people waiting for a bigger screen are going to buy one instead. And with no release date yet, it's hard not to be thinking about the only REAL option in the market right now, that is the kindle dx.

Greetings,

I just looked up Google News for Sipix and found this and this (both links are translated via Google). It looks like there is a device out (in China?) and they have two great comparison shots between Sipix and E-Ink.

Still no release date for the Sipix screens.

My mind is set on the Asus Dr900. If the Kindle Graphite had a card slot, cost less and had a touch-screen I would buy it; has it has not I will wait for the Asus.

having many companies that will offer 9" devices will be good for us. I hope that Asus product will not have the fate of Plastlogic's QUE.

One slick looking device for sure. With that 9" screen and low price point it has the potential to shake up the community.
