Pluses and Minuses
After a week with my new Wi-fi Nook, here's my take on its pluses and minuses:
Pluses Good price Nice compact size B&N makes excellent cases Can read Epub library books Little or no eye strain Touch screen menu controls really cool once you get used to them Page turn easy and quick with sweep control B&N has diverse content, including free books Minuses Battery life isn't great, even with Wi-Fi turned off Would like screen to be a lighter shade of gray, perhaps white Takes about a minute to start up - too long. Overall I'm very happy with my Nook and recommend it highly. Now if B&N could do something to improve the battery life, screen color and start-up time it would be perfect. ![]() |

Actually, I would perform an full reboot every 2 weeks or so since the page turning seems to slow down after a while. I havent rebooted it after 1.4, so I'm not sure if it's something that may have been resolved.

I agree with the pluses & minuses.
I decided to turn mine off today to see if that spares my battery a bit. It drains fairly fast in my opinion, even in sleep mode & airport on. A minus for me is the inability to organize my books into genres & authors. If I should keep a good amount of books in my Nook it could get difficult to find a book. I do like that I have found a way to delete any books I want to delete. All the reader's manual discussed was how to archive. Now I'm working on going on the web with my Nook so that I can delete from my Nook instead of from my computer via "MY B&N" on the B&N page. |

Is there a way to delete books from the "my documents" section of the Nook?

If the is, I wouldn't suggest doing it. That's where you put all your personal documents as well as any books not purchased from B&N. The device will not recognize non-B&N books placed in other folders except for those PDFs imported into the Adobe (adobe-digital-editions) folder.

Are you talking DRM'ed pdf's?,Library books? I am sorry that is just wrong. Yes you can use Calibre which I use to send pdf's,epub's,etc.. to my nook and also to delete books in My Documents. As have them backed up and organized, tags, cover art all thru the free Calibre software. As long as I have a copy on my computer. I can hook up the nook and even use windows file explorer and brows my documents and manually delete or add any book I no longer need on it. Whether it is pdf's,epub,etc... As long as it isn't a DRM'ed version. . |

I wonder if we can do it if we go to My B&N on our Nook if we can delete from there?

I guess I need to read about archiving books. I have Calibre installed and figured I'd just use that but maybe I want to archive books instead.

I need to organize!! Searching through all my books loaded onto my nook page-by-page is frustrating!!!!! What good does it do to have all these books on my nook when, to get to one, I have search page by page till I get there! With the slow page turning, click-to-page turning delay and no way to search for authors, book title, or series name I grumble every time I have to do it! Wouldn't it be cool if you finished book 2 of a series, then the Nook would look up book 3, and offer to open it! "Dear contented reader ... you just finished book 2 in a 4 part series, would you like to open the next book?" JMHO ~Squeak~ |

I agree that the organization is the nook's greatest weaknest. If they can't give us folders, I'd appreciate it if the font were smaller! That way, there would be less pages to scroll through.

Completely agree, I have over 400 ebooks, and it's a total nightmare... It's actually making me reconsider the nook, as even my old Sony PRS-505 has Collections. I really hope BN comes through with the next update and includes that as a feature...
It would be nice to see an improved word lookup as well, I envy the Sony Touchscreen users with their double-click... Why not have the Nook use the touchscreen as a window onto the page, and allow the scroll and choose the word that way? Like the games or the web? The current way is way too cumbersome to use regularily... |
