PRS-700

Hi everyone been a long time reader off and on but never had a reason to join!

I bought a PRS-700 in December of 2008 from the US and about a year ago it got damaged. A few days ago I bought a Kindle 2 but it is not as nice in my hand as the Sony. I was on the sony US website and after filling in lots of thing I was told that for $99 I should be able to exchange it.

They sent me a UPS voucher paid voucher to post it to the repair centre, but I am in the UK is okay to use it? When I try to ask the guys at Sony they refer me to Sony UK. Sony U say they will not handle it because it is not from the UK!

What should I do?!

Thanks for any advice.

I'm having the same problem... one day my PRS-700 just stopped displaying text on half of the screen and it was about 6 months out of warranty. I bought a Kindle to replace it and it's just not the same. I'm in Canada and I'd like to know if there's some way I can get a reasonable repair for my 700...

I had the same problem. Fact is Sony UK will not repair a PRS700 because it was never sold in the UK. To get mine replaced I had to send it to a friend in the US who contacted Sony US and got it replaced under the repair scheme. The UPS voucher is something new and may be worth a try. For me the screen was damaged and they just send a brand new unit.

Thanks for the replies.

I bought mine through a re-mailing service so that the address that sony.com has is a US address, maybe that is a way around there non US problems?

I posted here because I wanted to see if there was a way around their objections, but I have decided that tomorrow I am taking that voucher to a UPS office and seeing if they will accept it. Failing that I will send it back and just hope that there are no further complications. I have nothing to lose. It has been out of action for almost a year!

Finally, when I contacted Sony they sent me an email to say that there are no longer any 700's and that when I send it in they will contact me with an alternative model to choose from. So this will be interesting!

Will keep you guys informed

But on the other hand I like the internal light on this reader! Is the screen difficult to source and replace?
