The PDF question again - Syngress eBooks

Hi All,

I am considering upgrading my Librie for an iLiad mainly for PDF support. I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the current state of the iLiads support for PDFs, especially interested in hearing from anyone who has used Syngress ebooks on the device and how well they display.

Those ebooks look to be DRM'd? The iLiad doesn't support DRM ebooks.

This might be a no no, so mods feel free to edit this message, but would someone with an iLiad be willing to test this if I gave them a copy of a book.

After reading this this I can say, pdf files have a user & master password set.
splat, can you confirm this? Do you have to enter a password to open the pdf file?
If yes, it depends on encryption whether iLiad can open it. I willing to test your file. Or let us know the encryption mode [strg+d, then security tap in Acrobat]. iLiad can open password protected pdf files, but it depends on encryption method.
In general knowing the user password - needed to open the file - it is a 1s-operation to decrypt the pdf-file with very special software.

Nope, no need for passwords, entirely possible that the drm has been striped....

Actually the highest level of Adobe DRM doesn't ask for a password to read the document. The document can only be read on the device it was installed upon, in a directory called "My Digital Editions".

As a Mac user, it'll be a bit hard to check that. Looking at the info of the file, encryption is set to none

I've generally found, DRM wise, that if I could open it in Preview I could open it on the iLiad.

Sound good and from the looks of a test someone kindly did for me, the books display perfectly. I just have to make sure that they all conform to the same font size / layout (which they should) and I'll be good to go.

I assume size (disk size) of a PDF will only effect the loading speed and not the page turns?

More of an issue on complexity, but thats the same for all pdf readers...!

There are two kinds of DRM ... the protection against copy text, printout and so on.

The second option binds it to the actual hardware. It´s included in Adobe 6 + 7. In Adobe 8 they have externalized it to that Digital Editions program (which is crap in my opinion).

I don´t know if the first option is supported by iLiad - the second isnt for sure.
