Children's books $1.99

I just heard about these two books available from the amazon store and the Barnes and Noble store for $1.99. Both books are the first book in popular children's series. I haven't seen many postings about kid's books but I figured there are some of us here who do buy ebooks for the little ones at home.

Here are the descriptions from GoodReads:

The Secret Zoo (The Secret Zoo #1) by Bryan Chick
Something strange is happening at the Clarksville City Zoo. Late at night, monkeys are scaling the walls and searching the neighborhood— but what are they looking for?

Noah, his sister Megan, and their best friends, Richie and Ella, live next door to the zoo. Megan is the first to notice the puzzling behavior of some of the animals. One day Megan disappears, and her brother and their friends realize it's up to them to find her. Their only choice is to follow a series of clues and sneak into the zoo. But once inside, will they discover there's much more to the Clarksville City Zoo than they could ever have guessed?

The Mysterious Howling (The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place #1) by Maryrose Wood

Found running wild in the forest of Ashton Place, the Incorrigibles are no ordinary children: Alexander, age ten or thereabouts, keeps his siblings in line with gentle nips; Cassiopeia, perhaps four or five, has a bark that is (usually) worse than her bite; and Beowulf, age somewhere-in-the-middle, is alarmingly adept at chasing squirrels.

Luckily, Miss Penelope Lumley is no ordinary governess. Only fifteen years old and a recent graduate of the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females, Penelope embraces the challenge of her new position. Though she is eager to instruct the children in Latin verbs and the proper use of globes, first she must help them overcome their canine tendencies.

But mysteries abound at Ashton Place: Who are these three wild creatures, and how did they come to live in the vast forests of the estate? Why does Old Timothy, the coachman, lurk around every corner? Will Penelope be able to teach the Incorrigibles table manners and socially useful phrases in time for Lady Constance's holiday ball? And what on earth is a schottische?

Thanks so very much. Yes, I have purchased a Skytek Color for my granddaughter who is eight, and would like to purchase some books that are not exhorbitant for her. Does anyone have more ideas?

There are lots of free books here, have you already found those? I downloaded:

A Little Princess
A Secret Garden
Black Beauty
The Little Prince
The Wind in the Willows (illustrated version)
Little House on the Prairie
The Story of Dr. Dolittle
from the Mobileread library for free.

If you are looking for more modern children's books, I know that one of the Ramona and Beezus books is on sale for $1.99 from Barnes and Noble/Amazon as well. I haven't checked Kobo. The World of Beatrix Potter is available at Barnes and Noble for $0.99.

Hope this helps!
