Sell Nook ST for Sony PRS-T1?

I just received a Nook Simple Touch in the mail as the result of buying 4 tires from Tire Rack. It's still in the shrink rap. I've been using a Sony PRS-505 for a long time. I mostly download library books. It would be nice to have a brighter screen. I've got no complaints about the Sony - not too heavy, page turns aren't too slow, don't mind downloading to computer and moving to eReader. I'd just like a brighter screen if I'm not giving up anything else. Should I sell the unopened Nook for $80 or so and get the T1 or keep the Nook? Thanks.

I have tried both and I would keep the Nook.
Both devices have their pros and cons though and I guess it's a matter of opinion what each person prefers. Bothe are great devices!

I have both and hardly notice any difference in the screens. I like Caecilia font and the Nook easily renders Caecilia. I had to install the Reader modification made by a wonderful member of this forum on the T1 in order to use this font as well as right justify the text without having to modify the ePub file. Generally I use the T1 because it is lighter, but I use the Nook when ePubs have a font issue or the T1 crashes on me.

The T1 and the STR use the same screen. They look different because they use different fonts, but the screen is the same part from the same company.

I have the STR & the T1. From what i understand it is easier to direct download the library books with the T1. And I like the dictionaries with the T1. As for the STR I find the width (with a cover on) awkward to hold (my hands are small). Other than that they are both nice readers. I just prefer reading with the T1.

I had an PRS-T1 before buying the Touch, I sent it back as the first page of a book when you start reading after sleep mode, was very faint, especially if you use a small font to get more text on the page, as soon as you turn the page everything looks great, a stupid fault on that should have been picked up by Sony, it has been reported a number of times.

You would probably like the T1, as you can download library books directly to it without the need to hook it up to a computer. Also, the Nook has a smaller partition for side-loaded books, which I imagine that you might have a lot of, having owned a PRS-505. My advice would be to see if you could get the T1 on sale at Target if you live in the U.S. Some members at MR have reported that the T1 is on clearance at some Target stores for around $65. That way, you might even stand to make a few dollars.

I have both and much prefer the T1. It has a useable web browser (for getting library books, accessing Dropbox, gutenburg, wikipedia lookup, etc.), much better PDF support (on-device cropping!), and better UI overall (IMO). For example you can zoom any page to view maps/charts with more detail, while Nook has no equivalent. Also it has audio for MP3 playing (if you like listening to music while you read, audiobooks etc). Free form annotation using stylus, and a notepad app.

I like the physical qualities of the Nook for the most part, but the software is disappointing (no landscape mode, need to toggle reader settings constantly when switching books, no file management on the device). I have never been able to get fully comfortable with the Nook's page turn 'ridges' (even after hundreds of hours logged).

I read mostly 3rd party content on these devices, and the T1 is much better set up for that (as long as the 3rd party content is not from B&N - Sony seems to willfully make this impossible).
