Am I the only one?
Am I the only one who was foolish enough to think that the screen display would look like the advertising in terms of type and contrast? Is there a way to adjust?

Hmmm. You're right. Had never compared the picture on SonyStyle to the real thing.
Certainly, they make it look like a WHITE page on the site, compared to the true greyscale of the device. Looked at 3rd party pics ... they look brighter also. Took mine outside ... ahhh ... in daylight, starts to look pretty similar ... and if I take a flash photo, I'm willing to bet, it'll look like the 3rd party pics. Looked so nice outside, I think I'll take it to the pool and read for a while. Regardless ... I actually tweak my dev environment colors because I find the bright white background, and black text too glaring for me. I might like the reader just a touch brighter for the background color ... but not much. Love this thing as it is. The best new gadget in ages. |

The display depends on the available light around you

With the right light (with the light in front of me angled at the screen) the display is a dead ringer for the advertising copy. With the light coming from behind me (as I read most paper books) the screen is poor for my eyes.

I don't know. But I am amazed at the technology every time I see it. It looks as if the type in printed on it, like a non-working unit.

Talking about the "right light". I dunno if somebody here has these type of lamps ? http://www.ott-lite.com/pv.asp?produ...gory=TrueColor
If somebody does could you tell me if is it worth it ? I would buy it but I'm already spending too much on the wii. |

What is the text size you use.
Have tries it using every type of lighting from dim light on a airplane when most of the window closed to using a LED flashlight. It like reading any standard dead tree paperback book for me. As the light level goes down. I just up the text size. |

Ott=lites are wonderful. And they are a great light for the Reader. (They are also great for stamp collecting where shades of colors can mean a 1 cent stamp or a $100 stamp.)

I find it interesting that in good light the screen looks a lot "whiter" than it does in poor light. In bright light it looks almost white, whereas in dim light it's a rather dark shade of grey.
One thing I've done since buying the reader is gone out and bought a good reading lamp for both my living room and my bedroom - the two places I do most of my reading at home. Reading in a good light makes all the difference in the world. |

You are right Harry the whiter the light the better the image. these ott-lites are suppose to be better than the ordinary ones, i'm gonna buy one and try it out ($ 150 for 2 lamps, that's gonna hurt my pocket).

Have you tried the series of color correct lights from GE? Most non florescent one give off a brown light to me and florescent come in different color temp ranges.
Yep the right light does make a difference for any reading material. |

Anyone tried compact fluorescent? There are three colors and they're great power savers.
