Time for 1.4?

I'm very happy with my nook. However, I think it may be time for B&N to signal a date when we can expect an upgrade. For example, the subfolder sorting ability everyone has been asking for?

Am I too demanding or do others feel this way?

BTW, has anyone tried the chess or sudoku?

I was ready for 1.4 as soon as 1.3 loaded! I played 1 game of sudoku, and then looked at my facebook page for a minute. I've seriously considered going back to the 1.2 version, but the page turn is a little faster with 1.3

Yes they need to fix the highlighting feature, it's broken on the epub books I made from Gutenberg texts.

I'd like to see them add a "refresh" button for things that have changing content like The Daily and In Store features. Rather than wait for the device to realize that its content is outdated, I'd like to be able to force a refresh.

My wish list:
  • Ability to sort by title or author last name
  • Ability to create folders and subfolders
  • Ability to have one directory (no need for My BN and My Documents)
  • Ability to delete content (with a safeguard for deleting DRM content)
  • Ability to remove the games

I don't think it's a lot.

<cough>softroot<cough>

NookLibrary is MUCH better than the builtin "organizer".

Tried the softroot for a few weeks. I think that it does add some capabilities. However, I am thinking that, if possible, the developers should try to better integrate it into the B&N original software.

NookLibrary, for example, might have been more appealing to me if it was built as an extra menu item in the existing "my library" that comes out of the box. So, in the end state, you would have "Delete Document" as a menu item.

I guess what I am saying is that I'm not sure there was a need to re-invent the interface.

Oh, and I just noticed the stock software does allow you to sort by author last name or title. My bad.

My wish list:

Go to page number.

Ability to manually reset furthest read point so that browsing ahead or looking at notes does not set furthest read to a point in the book farther along than you have actually read.

Zoom function to make it possible to see detail in illustrations / maps.

I think if they are going to have a 'go to page' function, then they need to improve the page calculations. What it seems like right now, is that each book has its pages calculated off of one font size. There are only 15 combinations of font size and type, I don't see why the nook couldn't have a feature to calculate and store each combination one at a time depending on what combination a user selects as their preferred font type and size settings.

I think you complain too much, the upgrading in the nook works a lot better than on kindle, where we never know when we get it, and it's always minor upgrades

I wish Amazon would learn from B&N concerning this.

I'm very happy with 1.3 so far, but the one feature I want is the ability to turn off justified text. I also wish it would have a sub section to show the last few books I have opened. That way I can switch between them quickly if I have more than one book going at a time. I usually have a regular fiction book going and maybe a fact book or essay book going at the same time when I need a fiction break. Going through 20 pages of books to switch is a minor hassle, but one I wish they would address.

As I said in a different thread, I've heard a rumor (from a B&N associate) that the next update could be coming in about a month, by his best guess, which will supposedly include a fix on the Wifi connectivity issue that I've been having.

I have played the Chess, and my wife has played the Sudoku, and I have used the wifi a little bit.

My wish list for the next update is:

More apps--such as a calendar to replace my PDA with. I likely won't be buying an iPhone or other smart phone any time soon, and I want as few gadgets as possible.

Being able to access my yahoo mail account, which I have tried to do on the Nook so far, and it doesn't seem to be able to.

I want something put back that was lost in the change from 1.2. I had several books in the Irish language in which accent marks are found on some vowels. When the update was made, the display of book titles in My Documents was affected. Any title that that included a character with an accent mark became gibberish.

I can think of two improvements.

First, the Nook system of displaying titles should recognize colons. For instance there is a series by Robert Sawyer that has two titles so far, "WWW:Wake" and "WWW:Watch". If you search for them in Shopping mode, or if you buy them and look in your library list, you will find two listings for WWW.

Second, the Go To function should have an option to go to a page. Occasionally bookmarks disappear and there is no memory of the last page read. Its a lot of work to reach the desired page if it is 40 or 50 pages into a chapter.

Surely a competent programmer can find a solution to these problems.
