Unable to fetch any news

First time poster.

Downloaded 0.7.2...but now unable to fetch any news (NYT...Washington Post...Tulsa World...New Yorker). Sometimes get an error message box...or sometimes the news will "download" in main Calibre window but the file size is 0.

When I view the newspaper...I get this error...

URLError(error(10061, 'No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it'),)

You probably have an incorrect proxy setup in your system settings.

# In the Control Panel Home in Windows Vista, click Network and Internet and click Internet Options.
Alternately, in Control Panel in Windows XP and Classic View of Control Panel in Windows Vista, open Internet Options.

# In the resulting dialog, click the Connections tab, then click the LAN Settings button.

# In the Proxy Server section of the Local Area Network Settings window, verify that your proxy settings are correct. If they're not, correct them.

# If your settings are correct, try turning the proxy off for troubleshooting purposes. To do this, deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.

If you're not on Windows - ignore above.

Kovid is the expert, but if his suggestion doesn't help then make sure your firewall is configured to allow Calibre access to the internet....

Thanks for the help. I'd been goofing with the proxy settings recently...and suspected that was the culprit.
