Cannot detect Sony PRS-600
I'm playing a first time with Calibre and it is looking like very powerful piece of software. But I cannot detect my Sony PRS-600 reader. Reader has no cards now (so only internal memory), after connecting to computer I can see 2 disks. I can read books and copy them to reader and back, Sony library software works ok too.
OS: Windows 7, Professional, 32bit Calibre detection: Version: 0.6.55 USB devices on system: [u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid3b34&rev0006', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid3b3c&rev0006', u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c521&rev_5701', u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c521&rev_5701&mi_00', u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c521&rev_5701&mi_01', u'usb\\vid_04f2&pid_b15e&rev_8554', u'usb\\vid_04f2&pid_b15e&rev_8554&mi_00', u'usb\\vid_054c&pid_031e&rev_031a', u'usb\\vid_138a&pid_0007&rev_0072', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0020&rev_0000', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0020&rev_0000'] Drives detected: (0) D:\ ~ \\?\STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_SONY&PROD_ PRS-600&REV_1.00#0800461000D447C7&0#{53F56307-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B}#{53F5630D-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B} (3) I:\ ~ \\?\STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_SONY&PROD_ PRS-600_LAUNCHER&REV_1.00#0800461000D447C7&3#{53F56307-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B}#{53F5630D-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B} Looking for ALEX Looking for ANDROID Looking for AVANT Looking for AZBOOKA Looking for BLACKBERRY Looking for BOOQ Looking for BOOX Looking for COOL_ER Looking for CYBOOK Looking for DBOOK Looking for E71X Looking for EB511 Looking for EB600 Looking for ECLICTO Looking for EDGE Looking for ELONEX Looking for ESLICK Looking for GER2 Looking for HANLINV3 Looking for HANLINV5 Looking for ILIAD Looking for INVESBOOK Looking for IPAPYRUS Looking for IREXDR1000 Looking for IREXDR800 Looking for IRIVER_STORY Looking for ITALICA Looking for JETBOOK Looking for KINDLE Looking for KINDLE2 Looking for KINDLE_DX Looking for KOBO Looking for N516 Looking for N770 Looking for N810 Looking for NEWSMY Looking for NOOK Looking for NUUT2 Looking for PALMPRE Looking for POCKETBOOK360 Looking for PRS500 Looking for PRS505 Looking for PRS700 Looking for README Looking for S60 Looking for SHINEBOOK Looking for SNE Looking for TECLAST_K3 Looking for THEBOOK Devices possibly connected: None What's wrong? That's weird, try a reboot of your computer.

Is there any known issues with the newest version of the Sony software and Calibre? I'm having problems with Calibre not recognizing my Sony PRS600 also. I just updated the Sony software a few days ago. Everything was working fine before then. When Calibre wouldn't recognize my reader today, I tried updated Calibre (from 6.49 to 6.55 [or whatever the newest issue is]). It's still not recognizing it.
Whenever I plug in my reader using the USB cord, I get some kind of Windows installation error message, as if plugging in the reader is activating a software installation. It doesn't seem like it's a Calibre problem, but rather a Sony or USB cord problem. The reader battery also drained while using the USB cord for a few minutes. I'll try doing a restart, maybe try uninstalling Sony if that doesn't work. |

I have no idea, I never install any software from SONY on any of my machines. I have had no other reports of problems, but it should be easy to check by uninstalling the sony software.

It's not Calibre, and probably not Sony either. My computer is completely FUBARed. And...surprise! No backups have been done. You'd think I'd know better. I have backups of backups of backups at work. Luckily all my unread books are on my reader and I rarely ever reread books.

At first I was thinking that restarting Windows can help as I'm restarting maybe once a 2 weeks, but it doesn't. Fresh start of Windows, connected ebook reader, visible 2 disks, running Calibre and cannot find any device. When running the detection from preferences/advanced, the same result as above.
In that report I can see those 2 disks (D and I), but Calibre doesn't recognize them as Sony reader. Maybe - isn't there missing a "Looking for PRS600" text? |

I don't know if my problem was the same as yours, but I did a reset on my reader and it seems to be working fine now. The simplest solutions - is it plugged in? restart the computer, reset the devise - are always the last things we think of!

JanieB, you're right. Complete shutdown and new fresh start of reader has fixed it. Calibre has successfully detected my Sony reader.
