Waiting for the Christmas season?

How many other people are waiting for the Christmas season for lower prices on ereaders?

Anyone regretting the ones that they have already?

The one universal truth in this business is that there will always be something better out in six months' or a year's time. My advice would be "carpe diem"; you could read a heck of a lot of books between now and Christmas.

Waiting

My primary eReader is my Kindle, but I recently bought a Sony PRS-300 just for reading library books. I did think about waiting, because I'm thinking the price on these will come down, but I'm glad I didn't. I really enjoy reading free library books!

Like Harry said, there will always be something new in the pipeline. If the current version fits your needs, buy it.

I'm not regretting my PRS-900, not in the slightest. Like Harry said, you could spend forever waiting for the best one that will always be right around the corner, or buy the best one you can now.

I am however waiting for some of the tablets to start coming out - which should be around Christmas. If there is something that comes out then that will do what I'd like it to do as a reader then I may get one and pass my 900 on to one of the kids or my wife.

sods law dictates the minute you order and receive an item, it'll be reduced in price the next day. as HarryT says - "carpe diem".
If what you want exists now, at a price you can comfortably afford, then go for it.

I've my Gen3, over 2 years now [replaced once] - and remain delighted with it - it does what I want it to do...... buy and read books, cheaply.

That, increasingly, publishers are trying to prevent me reading the authors I want, has allowed me to reach out to writers that I would never have originally considered.

This is pretty much my advice to computer buyers. Buy as much as you can afford now and don't look at computer/prices for 2 or 3 years.

But it's not only dropping prices. I would like an ereader like the Pocketbook 360 for "carry anywhere" and a MID. With careful selection I could have both.

Of the 2, "carry anywhere" is a want. A large screen MID is a "would like".

Something like an ipad for $500 is not a solution because (aside from the price) it would never be a "carry anywhere" device.

HarryT like many others has multiple ereaders (Gen3, Opus, DR1000S, PB360, PRS-600, Kindle 2, BeBook Neo). I would like to keep it down to 2, small e-ink and large color.

I own a lot of readers. The only two that I actually use are the Bebook Neo (that's my "primary" reader) and the Pocketbook 360 (when I want something small to carry with me when I'm "out and about").

have a look at the wiki reader matrix and narrow it down using that ...the link is for e-ink displays, there is another for lcd...

SOS, I researched eBook readers for five and a half months before making my decision, and I have been comfortable with it ever since.

Since prices are sure to come down, I recommend that you wait as long as you are comfortable, knowing that whatever you choose will have a lower price tag a few months after you buy it.

But remember: Because of the free public domain books I read, my jetBook Lite paid for itself in a little over three months. Perhaps you would spend more for hardcopy books in the interim than the money you save by waiting.

As with any technology for eReader goes: the moment you walk out of the shop with it in your pocket, it will be outdated and overpriced.

I bought mine at a time I wanted it at a price I was comfortable with.

Which Christmas are you waiting for? the one this year, when prices might come down a bit or the one next year when the reader is even cheaper because a new model is on the market?

Take the plunge - the books you will be able to buy and read plus the freebies available anywhere will pay for the reader in no time if you are an avid reader. And you will regret not having bought one earlier.

Shouldn't that be "carpe lector"?

I agree with Harry: If you buy a reader now, you'll find a better deal in December. If you buy one in December, you'll find a better deal next May. Same difference, except that you'll have had six more months to enjoy reading.

I have a Sony PRS-505. I'm in no hurry to replace it. I thought it was worth buying when I bought it. It still does what I bought it to do. So why should I be unhappy that there are other devices that do different things available now?
