Last read question
I picked up a refurbished PRS 600 from Woot.com and it arrived yesterday. There are a few things I don't care for with the 600 but those are personal preferences not flaws.
My reading habit is to be reading a couple of novels, some history or biography, and a few periodicals or feeds all at the same time. I switch between the content. On the Kindles and the Kobo it's really easy to navigate among a half dozen or so selections. I haven't been able to work out an easy way to do this on the 600. The Continue Reading icon on the home screen only gives the current reading selection. If I list the books by date it appears that the date is the date loaded onto the 600. (Kindle listing by date lists first the books that have been opened and the Kobo has an I'm Reading list.) I guess I could make a collection but that seems a bit over the top. Other than that, the 600 is a fine ebook reader. I'm not ready to replace my Kindle or Kobo with it because of the book juggling issue and Amazon's selection and prices. |

I don't think there's any way around this. I usually have about 3 books going at once too, and I just have to find the want I want every time.

Bookmark the books you want to switch back and forth between - even if you just bookmark the first page (the Reader will remember your last reading location, even if you switch to other books).
Then, rather than going to the TOC to find the books, go to Notes. I left my 600 at work, so I can't remember the exact key order...it's something like Notes > Bookmarks. Pick whichever book you want to read. Then, to switch to a different book, use the "Back" selection, rather than Home. You'll go back to the list of bookmarks. Delete the bookmarks when you've finished reading, to keep your list short. I actually bookmark the books I finish...that way, I can add them to be "finished" list later on. But I think this would work for you without a lot of extra keystrokes or frustration... |

Thanks, FizzyWater, I'll try bookmarking and using Notes.

But if you bookmark the first page, then go back to the book by finding the bookmark in Notes, the Reader goes to the bookmarked page, not the page you were last reading. You'd have to bookmark whatever page you left off reading. It's still a good idea, though.

Oops. Good point. TallMomof2? Bookmark as you read, making sure to delete the old ones, when you open the book, to keep the list reasonable.

Just bookmark the current page when you're finished reading or if you want to switch to another book. Double tap the upper right corner (instead of options>notes>bookmark) and you have a bookmark. Once you switched to a different bookmark in another book, double tap the bookmarked page to remove the bookmark and set a new bookmark wherever you finish reading or whenever you want to switch books again.
This way, the notes list is kept short as you have (if you haven't forgotten to "unbookmark" the starting page) only one bookmark per book (which would be tha last page read in that book). If you forget to unbookmark a couple of times per book, press options while you have a book open, go to notes (or so), press options again and delete all bookmarks. After that press the return button in the left upper corner and set a new bookmark. I hope this doesn't sound confusing and maybe it helps. Double tapping sometimes doesn't set the bookmark immediately and instead (depending on your timing) can bring up the dictionary on a random word. But you'll get the hang to it. ![]() |
