Unhappy jacob75

Hi, I am an avid reader so I thought it is about time and get myself an e-reader. I picked one up from the USA on Ebay, a Sony PRS-505. The reader works fine, so I thought "I will load some books down from the Sony library". Well I became a cropper, I don't live in the States so I couldn't even register with Sony, so no chance for downloading anything. I noticed that other libraries are quite a bit more expensive than the Sony one. Is this because in general we pay a lot more in Australia for books than they do in the US.
Does anybode know a decent library with a good collection of Ebooks for us Ausies. Also is there a way to become a member of the Sony library for people from OZ with Ausie credit cards.
Well that is my first post so,
good reading people

Hello Jacob and welcome to MR.

Well, we Aussies are disadvantaged but there are heaps of resources for books. One of them right here on MR : the book upload section for classic, formatted by MR members.

Check out the Freebie & Deals - you might find something. So far I have not been able to buy from Sony, but at least I can get the freebies.

Inkmesh is a good source to find books & compare prices.

I buy a lot on Smashwords - good prices and lots of unknown authors. I love it there.

Check out this thread from desertgrandma - good tips there.

I also buy books from booksonboard (US&UK) but have to use a US / UK adress (I live in a football stadium).

Don't worry - there are heaps of resources for us to get books from - it's just a bit of a hassle to start of with. Oh, and check out your library, the one in Brisbane has an ever growing collection of eBooks.

Welcome to MR, jacob75

I'm another big fan of smashwords, just like Katti's Cat. I like to support authors who frequent our forums and have discovered some very good books.

You can follow the Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading? Thread and get some great ideas about what other members have read and their comments.

Also, "The Shameless Promotion and Endless Plug-Your-Novel Thread" to get a great introduction and some comments about books by some of the authors on MR.
The Deals, Freebies, and Resources as Katti's Cat mentioned is great to check as members (and authors) post there.

MR's free ebooks have been beautifully formatted by some very dedicated MR members. ePub format and Sony BBeB / lrf format

Free ebook sites.. feedbooks.com and manybooks.net

Free and for purchase ebooks .. smashwords.com and baen.com Plus Baen has a free library

You can explore using Calibre to manage your library of DRM free books and Kovid, the creator, frequents the forums here. We even have a dedicated Calibre forum.

Here are some book search engines for finding and comparing book prices.. AddAll, eBookPrice.Info, and Inkmesh .

Yair... what they said. Amazon charges us extra and Sony is a pain the proverbial.

Welcome to MobileRead. I have found plenty of books on this site following links provided by kind people like Katti's Cat and dreams.

The first book I read on my new reader came from Google books, and it was free
