Title comes out as garbage in content list!

A couple of weeks ago I bought my first book from Smashword in .mobi format. When I transfer this book to my Kindle the Title in the Content list turns up as garbage (tmp_aa40...).

The file name looks ok on my computer and looks ok in the documents folder on the Kindle from the computer. However when I detach the Kindle from the computer the title isn't the same as the file name. Instead it shows tmp_aa40... as a title. I've tried to change the file name and then transfer it but to little avail

Has anyone experienced this with there Kindle? Is this problem related to book formatting? This is the first time I've experienced that the title of a book doesn't show correctly.

Have you run it through calibre and checked the meta data?

I'll have to try that and see if it works. I loaded the book into Calibre and the Title showed up as garbage so I changed it and transferred it back to the Kindle and now the Title shows correctly. Haven't used Calibre that much but think I will start to organize my books through it. Easier to manage everything from one place.

Glad it worked - "invisible" meta data can be a real pain - it's great that now calibre can edit meta data on DRM'd books.
