Do you think an American 3g will work in Germany?
One of the things that irks me with the iPhone is that it is locked and ATT will refuse to unlock after contract for any reason.
My parents to Germany for business 2x a year, for about a month. If you ever seen the International voice/data rates by ATT, you should know they cost an arm and a leg. They end up using cheap native prepaid phones. Now, the iPad will be good for them for their limited usage instead of dragging an oversized notebook while still being easy to read for my dad... but with an American 3g, could they get native prepaid service in Germany? You can activate it from your iPad... but I'm not sure if the card in there is specific to ATT and not TMobile or whoever Apple's partner is over there. But it would be perfect for their purposes, charging $30 or so a month for their 2 months over there and then lapsing the service until their next trip. |

well, if you can find a carrier over there that supports microSIM cards, and has the same HSDPA/UMTS as at&t uses, then yes. the ipad is not carrier locked to at&t.

If it doesnt, switch to wifi while there. I understand it is included with the 3g models.
