OMG! St. Petersburg and Moscow are on our list of places we want to see, but those gorgeous photos brought it a few notches closer to the top of the list. The photographer even managed to find beauty in those horrible Soviet era apartment blocks. So BeTePok, I put the link on my Facebook, but is there a FB link on there to "like" or something?

Weird, I typed a message and touched something instead of "post," and ended up in some thread with Steve Jordan.
I was talking about the artist's use of light to make even the ugly scenes beautiful. My fave is the shack under the unfinished bridge. Look at all of the morning light, and then notice the warm golden light in the windows. It took a grim scene and turned it into hope and a new day. And dig the photo of the ice cream vendors in the snow and how cheerful they seem! |

Absolutely amazing. He really knows how to use a wide angle lens to harmonize close ups of the foreground with the background. Almost unreal.

This last one, kenny's fav. I don' know, it is just an impression. Like when the wind whispers in your ear and you imagine a name. .... Giovanni? the son of my mechanic? Mah, mystery of the mind. |

Thank you so much for posting the link. How I wish my photos turned out that way from my visit in St Petersburg. I got a few great shots but nothing anywhere close.
I agree that some pictures are a tad overprocessed, and I wonder if they have removed the overhead cabling by now (I was in St P 1996) cos all my pictures have the cables for the trams in them. For me, the different types of photos represent Russia: a country of opposites. Love the picture with the open bridge and wonder if it was taken during the 'White Nights' : In Petersburg the bridges are opened during the night at different times to let the ships into the harbour. We always had a toothbrush with us because if a night was a bit longer and you missed the bridge you couldn't get home till the early mornings. But nevertheless - I love the pictures. Great memories, great photos and a good eye for composition. |
