Dangit! (Broken reader)

Last night, after reading I set my reader down at the side of my bed. This morning, my wife accidentally stepped on it. There's a ragged line going down the middle of the screen.

All points of my foolishness for leaving the reader on the floor aside, What do you guys think? The reader is under parts warranty but I'm not clear if the reader is covered because I believe the screen is excluded, and I doubt it's covered if you step on it.

Nevertheless, should I try? Or is this a hopeless case?

Thanks

Sorry to hear this mishap. I doubt that general "mistreatment" of any device is covered by any warranty. I mean you can try, but obviously it was your fault.
I don't want to say that I'm the 100% law and regulations abiding citizen, but in this case I would say I broke it and that's it.

Looking at the device tag in your name you have a 505. So for me it would be a nice opportunity to get into the market for a new reader again.

Hmmm. I think you've asked for opinions and now you have mine. No offense.

Give Sony a call and find out what they have to say as to getting it fixed.

No offense taken
FWIW, I actually chose the 505 long after the 300 and 600 were announced. It's been a great reader and I still think I would choose it over anything else on the market right now including the Kindle, the Nook, you name it...

sircastor, I hear you. I kept my 505 after upgrading to the 600. It had the better display and it was thinner (not much, but at least mentionable). If they make a 605 (the 600 with the touch and clarity of the 505), I'll buy one. But for reading pdfs, the 600 to me seems just so much better.

Generally, stepping on a device isn't covered under warranty.

I would guess your best bet would be to find a used 505 with a good screen and bad innards, and perform a transplant. That, or search eBay for a near-mint specimen, though you'll pay close to original retail for one there.

Prices on the 505 seem to be really dropping now on eBay with the iPad being out.
