First Utilitarian Use of an iPad
![]() I had a crippled PC due to antispyware soft, and the way I solved the problem was to use an iPad to research the solution: http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-antispyware-soft.html The iPad served as an internet reader, while I was doing some emergency registry editing on the PC, in safe mode. Thank goodness for the walled garden approach of the iPad/iPhone OS. Sure beats Windows X-Post facto. Btw, and this is even more off-topic, use the netstat -a -b command in your MS Windows Command Prompt application to see who's really spying on you, or monitoring activity on your computer! Omigod, Apple is using 7 TCP/IP or UDP ports. Last edited by Fat Abe; 04-26-2010 at 04:32 AM. Reason: More off-topic subjects |

Whoa! I am intrigued. Every time my main computer coughs up blood and gives me the Blue Screen of Death, I have to haul my laptop down to my office and hook up the 3g dongle (Since the WiFi runs through the desktop.) When I get my iPad 3g, I'll have something easier to use! (Easier because my desk is a mess and there's little room to perch the laptop.)

Hey, I think I can make a fortune creating an iPad app that allows it to serve as a read-only USB drive to a PC. Here's the rationale. Say you are an IT support person who has to get a Windows computer back in service. There could be a software malady, such as malware or a virus. To research the problem you need an internet browser, such as Safari on the iPad. Once you find the solution, you may need a script file or a bunch of registry changes. Plop these into a file on the iPad drive, and then mount the iPad drive folder on the PC via the Apple USB cable. Copy or execute the scripts on the PC. Why makes this idea so unique? Can't a service person buy a mobile Windows based computer and use it in lieu of an iPad? Not exactly. It's the read-only USB drive emulation that makes my idea work. Steve Jobs will love my app. Headline: Apple Device Mounts PC, and cures sick victim.
