PowerMac G5
Well, I'm currently thinking bout getting another desktop. Up until this point I've been using windows, though I do own a mac se
, I was just going to buy another windows machine, but then I saw this PowerMac G5 for $370, and I was wondering is a PowerMac G5 still workable in the mac world?

It's probably OK as long as you don't want to be right up to date. I don't think the next OSX upgrade will work on a G5, the current one won't on my G4-467MHz. But I'm still pretty happy, doing everything I want to do. Even an old OSX is more stable than a brand new Vista box. (I have no experience with W7.) It'll probably need more than the 1 Gb memory it's got on it; just don't buy Apple memory.
OTOH, you can find some nice new boxes at Tiger Direct for $400. |

It's an orphan computer. Nice if you get it with some dated but functional apps like Photoshop CS4 already installed, but iTunes for the iPad requires an upgrade to OS X 10.5.8 or higher. Ask the seller which OS version is installed (10.4, if it's a late version nib). You have to pay for Leopard (10.5). There is no official G5 support for 10.6. Apple wants you to know what side their bread is buttered on- new hardware.
