16GB SD for PDFs and comics...
Hi guys!
I've been reading several threads about SD cards. I read that with huge cards, the reader take a lot of time to re index the books, so it's not a good idea to have thousands of books in a SD so big. But... What I need is a lot of space for PDFs that are big (something like 30 mb each) and for comics (big files too). So, I think it won't be a bad idea to use a 16 GB card for this, I won't be having thousands of books in the memory card. Anyone in my situation that can give me advice? Thanks a lot! Bet |

I've used a 4GB card for a while until I found out that page turns from external memory are much slower than from the readers memory. After that, I used the SD-Card to have other books/pdfs available all the time. But, actually, I have a couple of pdfs on my reader and once a file is read, I delete it right from the reader. By the time I'm finished with the "pile" of books, I've accumulated new ones on the pc and then I just move them to the reader. BTW, page turn times on the 505 were 50% faster from the readers memory for pdfs. I didn't check this for the 600, but by personal perception I would say it was about the same.

I've been told by Sony Support that they are scanning the complete book on the SD card not only counting the numbers. That way it doesn't really matter how much books you have on your card but also how big they are. Haven't tried but i believe a fully loaded 16GB sd card would take ages to be scanned....

I absolutely agree to SkyDream. It takes quite a while. And after it's done with the first card, it checks for the memory stick and then for the internal memory. You can see a short (really short) break in between the scans of the different memory locations.
