hello all

A new member here, from Paris (France).
Not yet totally sold to e-reading. I have been for 40+ years a professional of the computer(s), still prefer a paper book, at least for those reads I want to keep (and that is most of them).
However I have been in the activity of text publishing for 15 years already (began in 1994 with this http://www.bleriot.eu/litterature/ )
I have a collection of pdf, rtf and plain txt files, and am beginning with Calibre.

Hi and welcome to MR! I have to admit, I was reluctant to move away from paper books. I love reading and I thought e-books would ruin the experience. But it hasn't been so! E-books are just so convenient!

Salut Daniel & welcome to MR. I felt the same about eBooks vs PBooks but am now totally hooked on eBooks. It's just awesome to be able to travel with a library in your pocket. And it is so much easier to read a book as eBook if the pBook would have been a heavy one. (weight wise, not content)

Good to have your company, Daniel. Like you, I live in France (Menton) and like you I was a bookworm and book-hoarder all my reading life (nearly sixty years since I read my first book). Being in this part of France, English language bookshops are few and far between and very expensive, so I bought mostly on line.

Then, I got a Sont PRS-05 a year ago and life changed forever. I have affordable access to all the books I want -- and many classics are free. I no longer have a space problem. And I've got over the hoarding habit. I cleared my shelves of several hundred books within six months of getting the reader and have added very frew treebooks since.

I actually dilike reading paperbacks and hardbacks now. They're uncomfortable, heavy and altogether surplus to requirements now. I'd strongly urge you to give a reader of some kind a fair crack of the whip. They hold their value well and you can always re-sell here or elsewhere if you find you're one of the few people who don't quickly grow to love the ebook experience.

Best wishes and good luck. Neil

Thank you all for your welcomes and comments.
I have taken great interest reading the Which Reader section.
I think I'll wait for some iPad units to be available for tryout. (10 years with Apple company in Paris and Cupertino cannot be written off and I need to see the thing first).
