"Mr. Shivers" - Has anyone read this horror novel?

Has anyone read Mr. Shivers"? - in any kind of form or format.

Although I've read reader reactions at Amazon, I wanted to know if anyone from MobileRead is familiar with it.

It looks very interesting, and I'm thinking of buying it for my Kindle 2.

Thanks.

Don

Thanks!

That's a big savings, which is somewhat unusual given that we're talking about Amazon/Sony.

Exactly what I thought!

Here's a quote from Amazon:

"Amazon Best Books of the Month, January 2010: With his debut novel, Mr. Shivers, Southern writer Robert Jackson Bennett presents a pulpy, Great Depression horror story where a mysterious killer "trails death behind him." After his daughter is brutally murdered, a revenge-seeking Marcus Connelly leaves Memphis on a hunt across America's hobo camps and ghost towns for the grotesquely scarred, ghostly figure known as "Mr. Shivers." On his quest Connelly teams up with a scrappy band of hobos recovering from their own brushes with "the gray man," and the body count increases as they ride the rails tracking their target. Connelly's spiraling bloodlust begins to rival Shivers's, threatening to take more than just his family and friends away from him. Sprinkled with hobo folklore, Bennett's supernatural dust storm of a debut offers a killer premise and may remind readers of vintage Stephen King. --Brad Thomas Parsons"

I just bought "Mr. Shivers" and can't wait to start it.

It sounds VERY good.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

It's cheaper at Sony - at this moment - than anywhere else.

I saw that on the Sony bestseller list. I hadn't heard of the author, so I looked it up on goodreads. This is his first novel, mixed reviews but it had a lot of hype. I don't usually read horror though.

Glad to see Sony is cheaper sometimes

Ahhh, if only.

Preston Sturges was a genius, in my opinion. McCrea comes across as Everyman - perfectly cast.

I love that film.

I'm finishing up on a great mystery novel, and then wanted to start on my newly-purchased Thomas Pynchon.

But......since I've been reading literary works for the last few books, I think I'll go ahead and read "Mr. Shivers" before I start on Pynchon. I've been thinking about this book for the last three or four days, as I near completion of this other novel I'm reading.

I'll post something here - in depth - when I finish "Mr. Shivers," and let everyone interested know what I thought. I love the title of this book, by the way.

Sounds like the title of a Don Knotts movie.
