The Inheritors by William Golding - available anywhere?

I have looked everywhere for this in vain.

Can anyone help? I need a mobi or prc file ideally, but a PDF would be OK.

A brilliant piece of work, Polukus. I've read it several times and it's always a wonderful experience. I can't find a legal ebook download anywhere, I'm afraid. There's a cheap paperback version that will ship to China, though, from here: http://www.flipkart.com/inheritors-w...470-t0w3f9bvj0. Happy reading. Neil

Thanks Neil, maybe I'll go for a real book then! Unfortunately my post always seems to take forever to get here from abroad, and sometimes gets lost. *sigh*

Yep, Golding was one of the greats. Everyone knows Lord of the Flies of course, but I'd say his other work deserves more attention.

Ha ha! Finally gave up on looking for an ebook of this and decided to try buying it from the link you posted Neil, but...

it seems that Flipkart does not in fact send books outside India!

If anyone can help out with this I'd be grateful. I'm new to ebooks and it does seem rather difficult to build up a library of quality titles.

Sorry I can't help, Polukus. I live in France and delivery of paper books in English seems to take forever. I'll take another look around the net later and see if I can come up with something. Best wishes. Neil

By the way, Polukus ... maybe you could advise me on something. I ordered thirty paperbacks from LS in the USA for a literary agency in Chengdu, China. They shipped on Feb 8 and the package hasn't yet arrived. Is that normal? Cheers. Neil

It's certainly not unheard of Neil, but it might be best to start looking into it. I have never lived in that part of China, but where I am there are often very long delays in the delivery of mail from abroad.

The address has to be exactly right, and preferably written in Chinese as well as English. There was one time I waited 3 months for delivery of an item before I finally tracked it down. It took many, many phone calls and trips to the sorting office, constantly being told they had never received it, before it was finally "found". One line of the address had been written wrongly, and hence the "postal service" simply didn't trouble to sort out the problem.

You have to bear in mind that many (if not most) parts of China still have the mindset (and infrastructure) of a third world country, regardless of how the Chinese government tries to present China in the world media now, (Olympic games etc.)

Many thanks, Polokus. I just had an email from Chengdu to say the books had arrived safe and sound. About a month. Not bad, I guess, especially considering that the Chinese New Year in February may have held things up a little. Cheers. Neil

Hi, Polokus, if you are interested in obtaining an inexpensive copy of The Inheritors that can be shipped to China, you could try AbeBooks.com.

http://www.abebooks.com

AbeBooks is a website that allows you to search the inventory of new and used booksellers from several different countries. I just checked for The Inheritors and found 79 copies of it ranging in price from $3.64 to $199.99. (US Dollars) Although the shipping fee is usually listed for within the US or UK, you can change it to another country.

Most booksellers on AbeBooks will ship to other countries. You could first contact the stores you are interested in by email to see if they can write your address in both Chinese characters and the English alphabet. (Although it may not be likely, perhaps there might be a store employee who knows Chinese--especially if the store is located in a city like San Francisco or New York City that boast a large Chinatown.)

Another website to try is Fetchbooks at:

http://www.fetchbooks.info

They are a website I use often that searches the book inventories of many other websites, both retail websites (such Amazon and Barnes & Noble) and other book sites (including AbeBooks and even ebay sellers). They list their results in terms of price, from low to high.

Good luck to you!

Many thanks for that info Wenn, might be very useful in the future! I've actually now recently managed to place an order with an Australian company, Seekbooks. I've got my fingers crossed!
