ePub help (This may be an ePub problem)

For some reason on ePubs my eBook displays the page number within the text. It's really annoying. Also each page is not 1 page. It has 20 pages but I got to press page down twice to get to the next page so to speak. I think this is an ePub problem. Anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks

Are you talking about Adobe Digital Editions or an ereader? These have such annoying so called `page numbers' which aren't page numbers. There is nothing you can do about it, except nagging Adobe.

I'm talking about ePubs having page numbers within the book itself on the right side. Also each page is actually page an a half. It's really annoying.

The question is whether the page numbers are in the ebook or made up by the programs that displays them. It sounds like you are talking about the latter (Adobe software). So why not answer my question? Do the page numbers also appear if you view the ebook in Calibre?

No they don't appear in the view in Calibre. What I meant was this. I had a HTML file and it didn't do it. I used Calibre to convert it to ePub and it's there. That is why I think it's an ePub problem.

It's not an epub problem, it's a "feature". Sorry, but it is what it is. It isn't a problem introduced by Calibre. If you purchase an epub from Sony, or any other source, you will still have the page numbers in the right hand column.

I don't like them either but, they are what they are.

As I said it is a problem with Adobe Digital Editions and their software that is used in ereaders. They display these page numbers. And their page numbers have no relation to real pages. And it can't be switched off. And that problem has nothing to do with ePub per se. But as you refuse to tell if that is where you see the problem I can't be 100% sure that this is the problem you are talking about and there is a very small chance that it is something different.

Explains it nicely. Yeah it seems to be a "feature"

The number is normal for EPUB
what you can do is make it appear smaller and give it some clear space
Set your right margin in Calibre to 16.
Increase the base font size to 16.5 or so, what looks good.
What you get is bigger text and a tiny number in the right margin.

It is not a feature of ePub, but as I told you it is a feature of Adobe's software. Calibre doesn't generate the page-maps as far as I know. So then Adobe uses the trick as mentioned in the paragraph `Pages in Digital Editions (without a page-map)' on the page that you refer to. Calibre's viewer is not made by Adobe, fortunately, so therefore you don't see it there. The page numbers are not in the epub file.

My eBook seems to display them like it does in the ADE.

Thanks anyway.

If you mean by your `eBook' your ereader then yes, that is because most ereaders use Adobe software which is strongly related to ADE. It is in fact the embedded version of ADE.
