Apple iPad

Is anyone here interested in the iPad as an ebook reader? The price of the entry-level model is $500. This price is less than the price of the Que Logic and probably lower than the price of the Skiff Reader. The iPad is a much more capable device than these two products. If you have a requirement for an eInk display (easier on the eyes, better battery time, etc), then it makes sense to purchase an e-reader based on an eInk display or equivalent technology. However, for occasional reader or even for readers who don't mind the LCD, the iPad seems to be a significantly better purchase. What do you guys think? Does it make sense to purchase the Skiff or the Que? Could these companies reduce the respective prices to compete with the iPad? In my opinion, as much as I like eInk, I can't justify it to myself to pay significantly more money for something like the Que when I can get an iPad for much less and get more features out of it.

It's hard to add anything more to the torrent of words that have already been written about the iPad without actually being able to use one.

They look like a reasonable device to me, but until they're released and we all get the chance to see for ourselves just how well both the hardware itself and the various software options work then there's probably not much more to add. I'll certainly check them out when they do come out though.

Yes... there are several people that have stated the have pre-ordered them to use as readers in addition to other things. We have a whole forum area for the iPad and other apple devices you might want to check the threads there.

Both the iPod and the iPhone have been a success. If they built on the this technology, the iPad should be just as good or better.
