Waterstones - X Marks the Box free with no-DRM

http://www.waterstones.com/waterston...ks/4294964587/

Icon Books and Waterstones.com are pleased to announce that we are giving away the eBook version Daniel Blythe's X Marks the Box absolutely FREE in advance of the publication of the printed edition.

The free eBbook will be exactly the same text as the printed edition and will be free from DRM (Digital Rights Management) restrictions on its usage.

To get your FREE eBook, simply fill in the form opposite and hit 'Submit'.

X Marks the Box helps the ordinary citizen to negotiate the political maze. In this political primer - designed to allay fears, explode myths and shake up apathy - self-confessed born-again voter Blythe argues that politics often has very little to do with Westminster. In his role as irreverent but informed guide to the workings of politics, he offers practical ways in which everyone can politicise themselves to fight for the things that they believe in.

As the most tightly-contested general election for 30 years approaches - and one which will be fought more than ever on local issues - Daniel Blythe gives an enjoyable, useful and penetrating insight into how to make your vote count.

Supposedly the d/l is without obligation, but you are obliged to fill in name and email address on the site before choosing the epub or pdf d/l. In fact it is without obligation in reality as you can put anything in the name fields and anything like an email address in the email box. a@b.c works quite well.

Does Waterstones enforce geographic restrictions? Most of Iain Banks' work is not available in the US, and I was wondering which, if any, UK ebook sellers will sell to US residents.

By the way, I like to use bob@example.com for my throwaway emails, if they aren't sending you a link for the download. example.com is a reserved domain.

I just downloaded XMarksTheBox.zip, and live in Australia.

I haven't tried to read it yet.

I've bought a half-dozen Banks novels from them with no problems.

Sorry, no. So I don't know if there are any geographical restrictions for buying ebooks.

I tried to download this book, BUT it came out as a WinZip file, and my 'free' trial of this application has expired. So if I want this 'free' book I now have to pay £25 for it! Is there any way to get around it, as I found that the UK Sony store also does zipped files and this limits my choices somewhat?

Have you tried winrar yet? Winrar unzips winzip files as well. I have no problems opening winzip files or winrar files and there are no restrictions unzipping for as far as I know. You can download winrar here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.php

There are probably thousands of free unzip programs out there - plus about any version of windows from XP on will unzip .ZIP files in windows explorer. I'd first try just removing winzip and rebooting. If that doesn't work, then download 7zip (do the uninstall first, to make sure all winzip registry entries get removed), which is completely free.

Thanks for the responses. I will definately try out the alternative software ideas to see which works.

I do like this site, it's nice to read about other people and their problems! Living in the UK, I can only envy the Americans for the easy downloads and freebies they get! Basically we only have WHSmith and Waterstones and I really get annoyed having to pay more for an ebook than a paper one!
Oh well, rant over....

If you have Windows XP or later, it can handle ZIP files natively. It's entirely possible that WinZIP doesn't properly restore the settings to allow that to work when you uninstall it though.

What windows version DO you have? (And I'll find you an appropriate link)

I just bought/downloaded a bunch of stuff from waterstones and sideloaded it onto the nook. No problems yet, except a smoking credit card =)

I'm sure my company is going to chage me an extra fee for dealing outside the country too...but I think it was worth it.

I got the entire Malazan series and The First Law trilogy in ePub for my nook and sony

Bit of a puzzle as to why you'd put a EPUB file (which is already a zip archive, just renamed) into a ZIP archive
