PRS300S Battery Life

I got the PRS300S (pocket ebook) for Christmas. I've fully charged/drained it until it wouldn't turn on anymore/charged it again a few times. Each time I'm only getting about 150 page turns. I'm supposed to be getting 7500. Obviously having so little battery makes it almost useless as a portable device.

Is anyone else having trouble with this models battery life? Any suggestions or recommendations?

If you are charging it on the computer using USB be sure the computer is ON the whole time... if the computer goes on standby, hibernates, sleeps...etc... it will actually be discharging. A better option is to get a cheap PSP wall charger that fits the AC (barrel) connector on the reader.

If you are truly getting only 150 page turns on a full charge in a reasonable time, then the battery or the reader is defective. But, most issues like this have ended up being the unit is not being truly charged. Do not trust the little battery bars, or the charging light.... such things are dodgy at best....

Unfortunately, if it is defective it is probably too late to return it. My wife and I each have one and we get about 2 weeks between charges..... most folks get amazing battery life with the 300.

Welcome to the forum NeatLittleLass. Just realized that was your first post!

Be sure and check out all the free books here at mobileread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=126 that are ready to go for your Sony. You can also look a few forums down from that one and get many ePub books that will also work..... And here is a link to free ebooks from the Sony store http://ebooks.addall.com/sonyfree.html . Be sure to check back on the Sony link as the book content changes. Also Kobo is a great sight for buying books http://www.kobobooks.com/ and is often cheaper than the Sony site.

Instead of the Sony software, you might want to check out Calibre http://calibre-ebook.com/ , it's free (donationware) and excellent.

Again, congrats and have fun!

Thanks for the info. I have my computer's hibernate disabled. I know for sure that it's staying on and I leave the battery to charge all night.

And you're probably right about it being too late to return (and I can't for the life of me find the receipt which compounds the problem). Sony linked this page to me http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/d...nalId=C1001215 which more or less tells me that my battery is trash and I need a new one. I hope this is an easy process. :\

Before you go to Sony to get a new battery try the cheaper route of buying a PSP charger to charge it through a wall plug.

Agree, you really want to be sure the battery is being fully charged. I know you think it is, but the only way to know is put it on a wall charger that uses the barrel connection on your reader. A cheap PSP one (that does not use a USB connection) will do that. If you leave it on the PSP wall charger for 2 hours and you have the same problem.... then it is a defective unit.....

For the computer to charge it, the computer not only must not hibernate, but must not sleep, shut down monitor...etc... The computer must be fully on, like you are using it. Even then it just trickle charges.... the wall connection does a real and full charge.

Thank you for the warm welcome and info. I'll look in to a psp charger. And thank you for the alternative software link. I'm using 64 bit XP and the Sony software doesn't recognise it as XP. I have to use a secondary computer to use use the software which is a bit frustrating.

Lass, the PSP chargers can be had fairly cheaply on eBay. Welcome aboard, there are some great people on here that will bend over backwards to help.

Do the full on charge with the PSP charger before you do anything else.

I will check ebay, thank you. I was poking around, trying to find it from amazon and sites like that but they don't have what I need.

Does it stop working or is the battery meter just going to 1/0 bars? Have you tried to reboot it?

The battery meter will go down to one bar and then I usually can't turn it back on until I've charged it.

Other than turning it on/off, how would I reboot it?

By pressing the "Reset" button. But shutting it down, and then restarting it does the same thing.

How long (in days) are you getting between battery charges? Obviously if you've just suspending the device, and then leaving it for a week without using it, the battery will discharge! Better to do a full shutdown if you're not going to be using it for a few days.

I do shut it down completely when I'm not using it. If I read for, say, 1/2 hour every day, I'll get about three to four days, tops.

That's definitely too short. You should be getting a battery life of at least two weeks. Sounds as though you have a faulty battery.
