Red face Need a new ebook reader

Hello,

Today my Sony PRS 505 went FUBAR when I slipped and fell on an icy sidewalk. Here's the result

Well, it looks like there's no way to repair it. It even doesn't boot properly anymore.
That's the reason I need a new one.

I really liked the 505 and mostly used it for reading manga. The screen resolution (600x800) and grey levels (8) were a little to low though. Very small fonts were not very easily readable.

Many of the newer readers have 16 grey levels. I'm not sure how much this improves readability for small fonts. Probably I also need a device with higher resolution. I don't care about size/weight and features like touchscreen, wifi, 3g, bluetooth and mp3/speakers. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing, but the most important things for me are screen resolution and grey levels. A long battery life would be nice too.

Any suggestion for a good device to read manga and books (no pdfs/newspaper)?

Thanks for you help!

Edit: The iRex DR800SG looks very well suited for my needs. What do you think?

I don't really have any suggestions, but I'm sorry you dropped your reader! That would really ruin my day!

I'm due to take delivery of a DR800S tomorrow so could give you some feedback after that. If there is a representative file that you would like me to load and have a look - might even be able to take a pic - am happy to help.

Hi TGS, many thanks for the offer. I will look for some example pictures later.

Where did you order it? The DR800S version is €500, right? I would consider buying the us version (DR800SG) for $400 (~€300). Unfortunately Best Buy doesn't seem to deliver to Europe. But looking at the big price difference it would even be worth to open a temporary US post office box with forwarding service and pay the import taxes (maybe €350 total)......
