Another "Just got my Reader" post

So...my family apparently picked up on the ginormous hints I was dropped and bought me a PRS-600 for my birthday. Yay me! I've only had a short period to play with it so far, but I am definitely enjoying it.

Some thoughts:
  • Like others have said, the glare's a non-issue.
  • I'll need to experiment some more, but I think landscape mode is better for reading PDFs than reflowing, at least on the ones I've tried so far.
  • Related to the last item: I'm going to have to learn more about the conversion settings in Calibre. I tried converting a few PDFs to EPUB, with mixed results. But I didn't really get into the settings too much. Experimentation time!
  • The Sony software doesn't seem to be too bad, but I haven't done any extensive use of it yet. My sister gave me a $50 gift card for the Sony Bookstore, though, so I'm gonna pick out a few books from there (and will likely use Kobo for other purchases, though I'll constantly be comparing prices -- yay Inkmesh!).

Congrats!

Yes, compare prices.... Kobo is usually at or below Sony prices.... and inkmesh is an easy tool to check the major players quickly.... enjoy!

So far I converted a few PDF's. They seem to be ok on the reader. I haven't tried anything with pictures yet. Have fun with your new reader.

Congrats..

I tried converting a bunch of PDF's with calibre. The more text and less graphics the better off your results will be. A few graphic intensive technical books I tried I just gave up on, the results weren't worth it and I wasn't going to tweak forever.

With my 600, I also find that the PDFs look better in landscape view. In portrait, the letters either look like grains of sand (small) or pencil erasers (medium). Size small in landscape mode works great for me.
