TV screen on your Corn Flakes by 2020
![]() Taking a slightly more futuristic view of the future, NTL Telewest has created a report which "is predicting the death of the traditional TV, with television screens occupying an entire wall by 2020, and people watching news reports on the side of a cereal packet." Now, we need to take this with a grain of salt, of course. Not only is a 14 year prediction of technology in the future full of pitfalls, but NTL Telewest is also a cable company in the U.K., so they most certainly have a bias toward painting a pretty picture of TV's everywhere. It's the sort of perspective that would give a boost to cable-related investment and industry activity. But before we completely dismiss the thought, one has to admit that cheap and thin flat electronics and displays are likely, as well as radio components and power technology. It could happen. But there are a lot of hurdles to overcome, not the least of which is any environmental or health issues associated with circuitry on cereal boxes. One thing is for certain. Display and basic computing circuitry is on the verge of a revolution. We just don't know when or how, and we can only hope that power technology can keep up. Via PvrWire. |

If they can manage that the entire lighting industry will be in turmoil. Imagine a paint that emits light. The whole concept reminds me of the futurology research behind the movie "Minority Report" I often go back to certain scenes, specially in the appartments of the main character, just to see what they believe has a good probability of making it to the technology scene one day.
I can just see myself lying in bed, reading a good novel off the ceiling ! And then shift it to a portion of the latrine floor ! Or better yet. You carry an emitter with you that connects to any "paint screen" 10 yards around (on your property of course). While you walk about you read your novel on the nearest screen you see. |

Wow, I hadn't really thought about you being able to control the display. That could give us ebooks that follow you. What a cool idea! Whether it's on the back of your hand (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5055) or on the ceiling or wall or floor, or cereal box, no matter where you are or how bad your vision is, you can read the next page of your book.
Or for the teen, imagine if they had some kind of remote payer controls built into their hands or a glove. No matter where they went, they could continue to play their favorite video game against some favorite opponent across the country or across the world. With all the cool advances in technology, I guess sometimes it's easy to forget how limiting the current and upcoming technologies are compared to what "could" be in the far-ahead future some day! |

But with the appearance of such displays there will be a definite annoyance factor. If some kid gamer sits next to me on a longhaul bus and hogs the nearest display...I'll kill him...well baybe not but...

I don't believe controls on screens like that are that far off in the future. Today we have bluetooth everything, I even have a blue toothbrush (can't believe I wrote that).
As a kid we were told that we'd never have computers for personnal use, now they're 20years old ! And personnal communications ? Cell phones and internetcoms have replaced trad phones in many a household. If screens appear everywhere so should a certain "etiquette", just like with cells. |
