SDHC card problems
Hello,
I have a SanDisk 8gb SDHC card formatted (MBR,FAT32) using Disk Utility on OSX 10.4.11. I can transfer/access files on the SD just fine through the JetBook's USB, however they do not show up on the JetBook's books or settings menus. The card capacity is shown as being 0kB (both free and total) in the system settings, however OSX finder shows the correct values. The firmware version is 0.34c. I assume the disk utility formatting is not compatible with the device, perhaps I need to use a windows box....Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks... Sincerely, Anthony |

I'm not too sure, but my guess is the formatting that OSX used is not compatible with the JB. Does OSX give the option to format the card as FAT32?

Caching problems
The jetbook is experiencing some problems in refreshing the directories.
To fix this problem. 1. Turn on the Jetbook with the SD card inserted 2. Unplug the SD card with the power ON. 3. Wait for the message the card has been removed wait. 4. Plug in the card and wait for the message a card has been inserted. 5. This forces the linux kernel to re read the directory structure on the card 6. You will now see your files on the card. Even if you copy files through the USB to the internal memory, you have to remove and insert an SD card to force the system to re read the directories. The bug is still in the current firmware on both the JB and JBL. That is one of the bugs that has been reported to them. |

Thanks very much for the replies...
gr8npwrfl, I tried what you suggested, however the files did not become visible, even though they are definitely on the SD. I tried another SD that still has the factory formatting and it worked ok, so I guess the Disk Utility format is causing the problem, despite the fact it is FAT-32. |

I run OS X on my netbook. I will have to look at the formattinmg routine and see what is causing the problem.

Problem solved....it seems formatting the SD via the Jetbook's USB is what was causing the problem. I got an external card reader and it works fine now (not to mention the increase in file transfer speed)

manifestor seemed to have a similar problem... sometime to do with the formatting. Perhaps the recommendation should be to NOT format either the internal memory or SD/SDHC via USB.

Perhaps the recomendation should be to forget the USB cable approach altogether.
( I know it may be necessary for some development purposes, but The SD approach is better for the average user. For that, the USB cable is unnecessary.) All the the functions that most users will ever need, including firmware updates, can be properly done using the SD card. It is easy and inexpensive to add a USB 2 based media card reading device to a PC or Mac. There are plenty of pocket SD card readers, for under $5. Most Netbooks come with media ports built-in, that can read & write to SD cards. Luck; Ken |
