Want Windows 7 on your iPad?

Apparently Citrix has already been at work producing a thin client which will allow you to use Windows 7 on your iPad. See the details here.

What apps do you have on Windows 7 that you might want to run on your iPad? If nothing else, this ensures that ADE will work on your iPad.

And ... other things. Like flash.

Pretty lame, unfortunately, as it's not actually on the device.

I think it'd be neat to wipe the OS and slap Win7 on it instead, but I don't know if or when that'll happen.

I have no love for iPhone OS or their app store, and would much prefer a real operating system. In fact, the OS is the primary reason why I'm reluctant to get one.

Yeah, pretty lame. This is, essentially, virtualization being hosted elsewhere. It's not running on the iPad, thus requires a network connection. For a sys admin, it could be pretty cool. For the regular user, not so much.

I'd probably try that out! I have Bootcamp on my Macbook, but rarely boot it up these days...just have it just in case.

Odds are very low to none that it would be possible to actually run Win7 on the iPad since they made their own proc.

I think this would be useful, not as an OS replacement, just as an extra interface if you need to do something in Windows. I use remote desktop all the time, and that's essentially what this is.

I am with you all on this, the iPhone OS on the iPad is such a waste of good hardware. Either full Mac OS or Win 7 would be great. Perhaps someone does find a way to do that in the future. Isn't their processor just a modified ARM processor?

There are several remote desktop apps that are quite useful. I use one from Wyse that is also handy to admin VMware boxes. Having one built with the iPad's resolution would be very nice.

I doubt that that is why. The iPad probably uses an ARM CPU because that is what the iPhone OS was written to run on. This means Windows 7 is out, but Android, Linux, and Windows Mobile are in.

Yes, the Apple A4 iPad chip is based on ARM technology, but it's somewhat special. It's suggested that it includes a ARM Cortex-A9 multi-core CPU as well as an ARM Mali GPU. You can read more about it here.

I agree - it's vey unlikely that you will find Windows 7 on an ARM-powered Apple device.

Confused - you doubt what? I said that because the iPad runs on an apple specific proc, it won't run Win7. You said that it uses an ARM CPU because of the iPhone OS. How are these two mutually exclusive?

I am one of those who DO NOT want a bloated and overly complicated computer OS on my portable internet/media device. The instant on, easy to use and stable iPhone OS is great for internet/email/photos/movies/reading/light gaming/music....etc. There will be tons of tablets (heck they have been around for years already) with Windows on them. And if you gotta have the Mac OS..... just do the work and have a hackintosh. If the iPad gets the battery life they claim in the real word (and that's a big if), and it does not have major issues at launch.... I perhaps get a second gen one...

If it were an x86 processor, or even an Apple specific x86 processor, I would bet that someone would get Win7 running on it. But since it's a ARM processor there is no chance. Whether the CPU is Apple specific isn't nearly as important as the architecture, IMO.

That's exactly how I feel about the iPad. I think my iPod Touch is great... Except I'd like a larger screen!

Doesn't the HTC Shift have an ARM processor and is dual boot (WinMo and XP)?
