having trouble with some epub books on changing font size, most books change ok but have a few that do not change.

Are the ones that are having a problem pdf, perhaps? If so, open it/them on your computer, and try selecting text as if you were going to copy. If you cannot copy, it is likely an image based pdf and you can only zoom those. Note: zoom settings do not stick across pages.
