LARP...you mean this is real??? I thought that this was made up for that movie "role models."

2nd vid does look cool as heck in spots...and some parts lol

You've never come across live role-playing games? I'm surprised - lots of them around in the UK. I used to participate in them in my younger days.

Never. I played AD&D back in the 80s as a kid but I've never even heard of anything to do with live action rpgs up here where I am at. I looked up LARP after watching that role model movie and was surprised to see that it exists.

I dont judge or anything (cept for that first vid

) I am just surprised is all.

Very common. We have several groups in Norway, I would guess that several hundred people around the country are engaged in such activities. Doesn't sound like much? Remember that Norway has a population of about 4.6 million people. The name for it here is mostly "laiv" and not LARP.

I'm experienced at dinner table RPG (AD&D, D&D 3rd edition, Vampire, etc.) but even I think the people doing this are kinda strange. Well, at least they get some fresh air.

They had this at an Eastercon I attended many years ago. It was the first (and probably the very last) time I witnessed it and the whole Gods-awful convention scene.

If only! These Filkers drag kids along to the embarrassment-fest, and the kids wander around the convention halls and hotels bored out of their minds looking for somebody, anybody who isn't as embarrassing as their parents. I'm sure it must be a form of child cruelty, especially when you see some of these parents dressed up as Conan or a Klingon.

I suppose conventions are supposed to be a meeting of minds, but every single one I've been to has been more about the meeting of t-shirts.
