Jetbook Lite v0.14k found..

Looks like the elusive v0.14k firmware for the Jetbook Lite was uploaded to their FTP site today. Here's the link:

ftp://80.247.183.35/JL08-v0.14k.zip

Build time on the zip file is 12/18/2009, 12:42pm...

Thanks for the link. From the time stamp, it looks like this firmware just came out of the oven. Looking forward to trying it out when I get my Jetbook Lite later today.

I won't get a chance to try it out until about 3pm EST, but hopefully it'll fix the epub drm for B&N. If it does, I'll be sure to let you guys know (and it if fixes it on that platform, surely they will have it working on the regular Jetbooks very soon).

I've got it loading now, hopefully be able to report back a little later about the results .

I can confirm that it doesn't open a epub B&N book downloaded directly from their page. Not sure about on that was pulled down with their reader software (those have a number on the end of the filename, where the ones you download directly from the page have my first 4 letters of my name on the end of the file).

Don't have anything I can load that is a drm'ed epub file for Mobireader yet, so can confirm that or not.

Looks like there's a even newer build, 0.14m up on the ftp.ectaco.com site. I'll load it and report back soon as I get a chance.

(If you go to their forums, there's a link to the 14k version, use those login credentials and you can get the 14m now).

Don't have it on my wife's Lite yet, but upon unzipping the EXE file, the actual firmware file is dated 12/22/09 2:12am...

I'll load it soon as I get home from work, and give my protected books another go .

Thanks for the link to this new firmware heffe2001. I've installed .14m firmware and can report that I was able to load DRMed pdb files from ereader.com as well as barnesandnoble.com. Also, the fonts look normal and can be zoomed like all other books. I don't know about DRMed epub files from barnesandnoble.com as I don't have any of those, but I think we have a winner here! I haven't played with the new firmware much more than installing these DRMed books so I'll report if I find any bugs or other problems. Hopefully heffe2001 can confirm my findings.

Right now I'm thinking about holding off on firmware upgrades until the situation settles down.

May I assume that when that day comes, I will be able to just download the latest and ignore the ones that I am skipping?

That should be the case. The firmware installation completely wipes the memory and replaces it with the firmware you are installing from the card. And your plan to wait for official confirmation is probably not a bad idea but I can't help myself when it comes to this kind of thing. As I mentioned, I'll report any bugs that I find.

On a side note, B&N DRM'ed epubs will not load, nor would a prc file I got from my library that mobireader does work with. Don't have any other DRM'ed files, but hopefully they will get the epub stuff working.

Great! I'm sure that I'll be spending the weekend studying up on it.

yes, I updated .14i version -> .14m today. It works much better with pdb files and load books faster.

I've made some notes about some of the shortcomings of this firmware over in the Jetbook Lite DRM Compatability thread. Still a ways to go to get properly displayed DRM ebooks.

I just got my Jetbook Lite from eReader. It came with 14m. Unfortunately, even this version cuts off lines on eReader secure pdb books. I didn't try my one secure B&N epub book.

I've just spent 15 minutes proving that I don't know how to search for directions as to how to update the firmware on the device--can't find them here or on jetbook.net. If someone could point me to the directions, I'd like to try version 14n at some point. Is there a web page at jetbook.net for jetbook lite firmware information?

Other than that, my first impression is really good. It's comfortable to hold. Not as fast as my laptop when loading a book, but after that page turns are zippy. And, yes, it works well with Linux.
