Hello & help

Hi guys

I have purchased my first E Reader Sony PRS 505 from another user. I have managed to upload some free books to start me off but I cannot read the several books that the previous owner had left on there. It says protected page. Any ideas. I have the latest software, updates & have authorised my computer but not sure if he has deauthorised his. Why would his books be protected?
Thanks

The ebooks that say protected page were probably purchased by the previous owner.

He has probably deauthorized the Reader from his account and because these book were authroized to that account they are no longer readable.

Yep. Welcome to the fun world of DRM, where you don't own what you've paid for.

Friends don't let friends buy DRM-restricted content.

Welcome. I love my PRS-505 and suspect you will too. DRM is a pain, but fortunately you'll find many many books out there without it. I buy my books from the Sony store (or any other DRM bookstore) only if they are significantly cheaper or unavailable anywhere else.

Thanks guys. Does it matter if the guy I bought it from has not deregistered the device? I have registered it no problem.
One last question then, how do I know if a book is DRM registered. I am in the UK?

If he did not de-register the device the books would be readable.

Either it was already de-registered or when you registered the Reader to your account his was automatically removed as the Reader can only be authorized to one account at a time.
