Talking Hello from yet another Christmas Newbie!

Hello from the snow-laden North East of England, I got a Sony PRS300 for Christmas - like lots of others! I'm sure I'll be scanning the forums on a regular basis looking for tips and advice from all of you!

To all out there, all the very best for the holiday season - and for 2010....

Wink Christmas pressie - or should that be PRSsie!

Hello netseeker

Am impressed so far - this is my first dedicated ebook reader, I'd previously adapted my Nintendo DS with dslibris - it worked fine but was a bit limited really, and small! It's different on the PRS with the page turn as well, that sort of "flash on and off" thing - do all Sony readers do that? I checked Youtube and saw the 600 in action, it does it as well.

Anyway, so far - with the forum's help, I've discovered that 1.Sony's Library software is not good - I couldn't install it at all (I've got Vista) - and 2. that Calibre is recommended. I got that up and running well - and my first books went on in minutes! So many thanks for that already !

I'll be scanning the forum looking to see what is recommended as a mobile charger - we didn't buy the PRS one - I've got a Sony Walkman one and wonder if that'll do it (it's 5 volt). I'm sure the answer is out there....

Cheers again

Hi Thistle and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a Sony for close to two years now and I can assure you, after you've used yours for a while, you'll never notice the 'flash' when you turn the page.

Good to have your comany, Thistle. As others have said, you'll soon become as blind to the wee page-turn flash as you are to the turn of a paper page. Something you'll appreciate is that pages don't get stuck together and require a lick of a finger to separate them. Good luck. Happy reading. Neil

New Years Wishes!!

Thanks to Neil, Kenny, cassidym and Desertgrandma for your kind replies ...... and a Happy New Year to all of you, and the forum.

I've been catching up on my reading..., and I think I'm going to like this a lot... you are right, - the "flashy" page-turn thing is fading to a flicker in my consciousness already.

Am still unable to install the Sony software -like many others, but Calibre is doing the job anyway.

Again, thanks for your help, and here's hoping for a happy and peaceful year in your parts of the world, which all sound lovely, btw. Not like the currently very chilly English North East, although we do have our places where it's so beautiful you forget the cold, - (as long as you're well wrapped up!)

Cheers - and happy reading!

Thistle, there are unfortunately a few people that are having issues with the 3.1 Sony Library software .. in particular with Vista. If you think you really need it, check out the other threads here on MR for suggestions and/or contact Sony. Hopefully they have gotten things worked out as far as what the issues are.

Enjoy! And Happy New Year to you as well!
