Issues with Windows 7
Has anyone encountered problems using their DR1000 with Windows 7 PCs?
I decide to have a New Year clear out of files on my DR1000 today but could not get the PC companion software to work. I made several attempts to connect my unit to the PC but the companion software did not autorun. I tried linking to three separate PCs, all running Windows 7 with the same result on all PCs. In desperation, I fired up my old laptop running Win XP to see if the SD card had been corrupted, however the software auto loaded and ran just as it should. Moving back to Windows 7 the problem was still there. I can manually run the companion software but it would be nice to have the machine run properly. Particularly as I plan to use it much more in the coming year. If any one out there has found a solution I would appreciate hearing about it |

Not having Windows 7 I can't really say, but it sounds like you've disabled the autorun feature, assuming Win 7 allows such a feature.
If you connect a flash drive with a programme on it, does it autorun? Autorun is often disabled as a security feature and so the enable may be in your security settings. Howard |

I have Windows XP, and the software doesn't autorun for me either. It doesn't appear to be that much of a problem though in terms of the software operation. Other than autorun, does the companion software work normally for you in Windows 7?

The companion software works perfectly well with windows 7. The only problem is that you should "run it as administrator" - system-pc_application-right click on irexdr1000.exe-run as administrator-voila

You can't autorun a file as Administrator without having to press 'YES' in the UAC. Of course you could disable it but that's not recommended.
To be fair I never used the Iliad software so I don't think the Reader 1000S software gives you so much worth. You will using CF or SD Cards anyway. |

Thanks for the advice. My original posting was a little inaccurate, Win 7 did open the autorun Window but running the iRex software did not appear as an option, you had to open Explorer and go looking for it whereas in XP it is the first option in the Window.
I have had no need to run the software as administrator, when you find it in Explorer just double click and it works fine. If you find that scribble merge does not work in Win 7 you need to go to Folder Options in Control Panel and de-select "Hide extensions for known file types" and this will fix the problem. See the iRex KB for more details. |
