Hiding "smilies"?

Is there a way I can set up my account so that I don't see the "smilies" in other people's posts? I poked around the user CP, but didn't see anything.

"user cp" "edit options" (Under Setting and options) scroll down till you see "Thread Display options", then unclick whatever you don't want to see........

Anyone who doesn't like smilies is a miserable ol' cuss, Boydcarts. But I'm glad to find I'm not the only one. Cheers. Neil

I'm going to try a little experiment. Sorry for the smilies but I'm going to see if I can exclude them.

I can disable smilies in my own postings (a Miscellaneous Option below the Submit Reply button and they will show as seen above), but that's not what you're looking for.

You have the ability to hide smilies in the MobileRead mobile site but I can find no way through the User CP to hide smiles on the .com site.

If you have something like Adblock Plus: add-on for Firefox, you may be able to ignore images from the MobileRead smilies image file:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/images/smilies/

You could possibly make a request to Alex to have the option within the User CP to suppress smilies, it sounds like a reasonable request, but you may miss out an intended nuance of the message if say, the "wink" was suppressed.

I hope this helps. Apologies for all the smilies.

I can hide smilies using Adblock Plus: Add-on for Firefox using the following filters: (with wildcards)

Code:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/images/smilies/*.gif
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/images/smiliesadd1/*.gif
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/images/smiliestext/*.gif

I just added my smilies back because I like them too. I was just trying to prove that it could be done.

Just don't complain later if you take seriously an answer that was given with a smilie
