PRS-900 release date

I was wondering if anyone knew of a specific date for the PRS-900 to be released? The last I heard it was on 18 Dec. Thanks.

I was at my local Sony store this past weekend.

He said that they would be limited to only 5 PRS-900 units until January 2010.

He was not sure if he could sell these units or only be able to use them as demos.

Sort of hoped it would be available for black Friday.

I just took a look at the Sony Style prs 900 product page and they list the ship date as December 18 for pre-orders. No delivery date is assured.

Yup, the pre-order page is now up. Here is the link:

Sony Pre-Order Page for PRS-900

The site says that pre-orders will ship between Dec 18th and Jan 8th, but the delivery date can't be guaranteed. The cost is $399.

Today's WSJ states that shipping for XMAS is unlikely. They actually spoke with Sony.

Does not surprise me too much that it may not be able for Christmas. I really do not think that Sony had planned on introducing the 900 at all a few months ago. My theory is that since the details for the 600 and 300 were leaked before their big media announcement they need some kind of surprise to make the event more newsworthy. If you remember they did not even have a working model at the event, just a mockup.

Checked mine. It still says processing. No date. But I placed the order a few days after it was released because I was trying to get customer service to answer a few questions first, but that was a futile effort .

I'm probably going to purchase a 900 but want to see and test one prior to the purchase. I emailed Sony and they say they don't know what other retailers will have them available or when. I was hoping my local Best Buy would have them for demo purposes. Does anyone have any experience with how soon things become available at other locations? If they are available sooner that would be great.

I've said it before and I'll say it again

Sony's site doesn't make sense.

My "estimated shipping date" says 11/24/2009.

I won't hold my breath.

It seems to vary by location. When the 300 and 600 were first released it took a good 4-6 weeks for stores other than the Sony Style stores to get them where I live, and the SS stores charge an unpleasant restocking fee so I try to avoid them.

My guess for the 900 would be late January to early or mid February for them to appear in the large chain stores. This based on the fact that pre-orders are estimated to ship through to January 8th.
