Hello from Edinburgh, Scotland

Just saying hello. I joined just over a week ago simply cause I was googling for a hot pink cover to get my daughter for Christmas, then to my surprise, I woke on Christmas morning to find my own reader under the tree (same one as my daughter, the Sony PRS-505). I'm well pleased with it, and find I even have a free external charger courtesy of my PsP.

Welcome to mobileread!

Do check out the many books available in the Mobileread library, in LRF or ePub.

Hi Ferns and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a 505 for close on to two years now and really like it.

Good to have new company from my home town, Ferns. And it sounds like you and your daughter have had a bumper Christmas. The 505 is a superb wee machine. You'll also find that it performs much, much better if you charge it from the mains rather than via USB to your PC or laptop. A tip -- if you have birthdays coming up, drop heavy hints for the leather 'Easy i' flip top covers for your readers. They turn them from a mere gadget into something that looks, feels and even smells like a deluxe hardback. Also makes for much more comfortable reading, either in one hand, with the thumb free for page turning, or free-standing if you like to read when you're busy spooning up porridge or scoffing haggis and neeps. Slainte. Neil

PS: If you want some reading to get you going, just pop into my own publishing site (www.bewrite.net) and let me know of any titles that catch your (or your daughter's) eye and I'll be happy to send them over for Hogmanay. ntmarrATbewrite.net (use the @ sign). N

Hi all, I'm another one who got an eReader under the tree! I was hoping someone may be able to help me, I'm keen to get started but the software I download for the Sony site will only allow me to register if I have an American address (the eReader was bought in the USA as a gift). I would like to buy from the Sony site, and possibly others neilmarr! Any help or suggestions really appreciated, Merry Christmas!

Welcome to the forum Ferns and Lucy.

Lucy, you can skip the address page and credit card details and the software will still work. Several forum members will buy sony gift vouchers so that non-US people can access the Sony store. Send a PM to Leaping Gnome, who takes Paypal.

Alternatively, you can download the UK version of the software. I belive that there's a link on the Waterstone's site. Their choice of books is smaller, though.

Also, Lucy, you can get a long, long way by using free Calibre library/conversion software (you can download it from MR). Just grab books and select ePub format for your Sony. Pop into my own wee house's store as well (www.bewrite.net) and let me know of anything that catches your eye. It'll be a pleasure to send the ebook/s over free of charge. ntmarrAtbewrite.net (use the @ sign). Good to have your company. Cheers. Neil
