New to e books
I am in the process of deciding which ebook reader I want to purchase. I am considering the Kindle because it always seems to come out on top in reviews. However, I want to be able to read books that I download from my public library on the reader. With Calibre, can I convert the books I download from the library on to the Kindle? My second choice is the Sony reader because I know I can read library downloads on it. I would appreciate any comments regarding the readers, recommendations, etc.

Hi Eddie, welcome to MR!
![]() I love my K1, but Sony makes a good product. If I were buying a reader today, I'd seriously consider the Sony 300. I haven't ever tried to read library books on my Kindle. I've bought a couple (literally) and downloaded several freebies from Amazon. Most of the books on my K1 are downloaded from right here at MR. If you like classics, there's a lifetime's worth of reading right here. Anyway, I'm sure someone else will be along soon who can answer your questions better than I. |

Welcome Eddie!
I'm very happy with my sony(s), never tried a kindle as until recently it was not even an option for non-USA citizens. You cannot convert library books with calibre, as they are drm-ed. However, I am not sure if you might be able to directly borrow books through a kindle or not. Kindle owners can answer you on that! Have fun in this forum and enjoy any device you choose. |

Thank you for your replies. I have finished my research, and I have ordered a Sony 600. I am looking forward to getting it and begin the e book experience.

You can start downloading books now, so you can be ready to go once your Reader arrives. (and make that big decision on which book will be the first one read on it. ![]() Quote:
