Insiders guide to the wireless future
![]() Business 2.0 says that we are on the verge of something new. We are connected at home, but soon we will be connected everywhere. (Consider the Treo 700p, for example, as a good start!) Wireless cell carriers, Wi-fi, Wi-Max and similar technologies promise to bring us an always connected mobile world. "It's hard to get excited by the technology as it exists now," says James Enck, an analyst at Daiwa Securities SMBC Europe. "But when you look at everything that's happening, it starts to get really interesting." Check out the full article to find links that give examples of some of the technologies that they consider to be revolutionary (but are already old hat to some of us bleeding edge guys and gals!): * Productivity: The everywhere office * Voice communication gets more flexible * Beyond the map: Services that fit where you are * Entertainment: Mobilizing the buddy list * Tomorrow's wireless devices Via CNN Money. |

Seriously though, I always love the pundits who seem to assume that the technology experience they have in the city is world-wide; broadband penetration of < 60% is not what I would call "everywhere"; if you happen to live in South Korea or Sweden this future may apply to you, but as long as the telcos keep their stranglehold on communications it won't happen in America. |

Well, I had the change to play with wireless broadband Internet on a commercial long-haul flight, and ever since, I know what it means to be truly connected no matter where you are. It's definitely great. But do I need? I don't know, right now, most of my time I am connected through wired LAN even though my notebook has WiFi-builtin. Why? Because I found my home LAN to be more reliable, faster, and without a hint of radiation
![]() To make it short, I think while we are definitely heading towards a wireless future, I could just as well survive without it (at least for some time). |

So you're right, we really have a sizeable number of user's still having to struggle with 28.8 speed in this world. |
