Saw the Pocket Pro At A Retail Location

Last night my family was at Car Toys looking at cell phones and as I looked around the shop I was happily amazed to see the black and white Pocket Pro units on a display! I remembered Robert B posting about setting things up with lots of retail chains and was pleased to see the first one I experienced do a nice display of it. It was very cool getting to play with both units and actually see how fast the page turns are. The two sales guys working last night had done their homework about what they were selling. One more than the other, but that is why we keep going back to him for cell phones.

For anyone living in WA, OR, CO, or TX you can check www.cartoys.com for a store location if you are curious. The package is being sold for $229 + sales tax.

Robert, I am now more tempted than ever by this very lovely unit and getting to play with it really made a difference. But I am holding out for CES and the new mystery units your blog mentioned because I want at least a 6" screen.

According to DalaDe's link seems some of their locations have the blue one too then!

Yea, and CarToys shows up on Amazon so they are there as well. So you can buy a PP from Amazon.

Yes, I wanted NOT to say anything before they were all set up and ready to go!

Car Toys is carrying the Pocket PRO now in Black, White, and Slate Blue. Other colors may be coming if you ask them. We have sweetened their initial offering with a coupon from Books On Board saving more than $100 when you buy ten eBooks. Ask for the coupon!!

Yes, Car Toys is doing a display in each store where people can try out the Pocket PRO and test drive it. AND... because you buy at their store there is no freight to pay. SO... $229 is a great price!!

Car Toys worked their fannies off to make this happen! These are good people who are very knowledgeable and ALL warranty is still with Astak!!

A sign about the coupon was part of the display. I don't go to Car Toys all that often so I'm not sure how long the display has been up - I was just pleased to see it. Sorry to spoil your announcement.

Sara, thanks for letting us know that some Car Toys have the Pocket Pro in-store. I went to a Car Toys today and they had both the black and white versions on display. I was able to look at them, fiddle with the buttons, check out the brown protective cover, etc. I'm a little bummed that they don't offer the maroon color (only black, white, blue). But overall I liked it a lot. It felt really good in my hands and the buttons were easy to use. I'm still deciding between the PP and Sony prs300 but the PP is a little ahead in the running. I was glad I could check them both out (the PP at Car Toys and the Sony at Borders).

I work for Astak.

Car Toys took the Pocket PROs in Black, White, and Blue. I suggested Maroon but they wanted to wait.

I have a feeling that if everything goes well with Car Toys on selling the Pocket PRO they will carry all 6 colors. Also, I think it would be easy enough if you wanted to go to Car Toys and place a special order we could ship it to them pronto if it is in stock.

Regarding the Sony prs-300 and the Pocket PRO... both are fine machines. BUT... please look at what features the 300 has and then look at the Pocket PRO. Expandable memory is only one small thing... but you cannot expand on the 300 and can go to 8,000 eBooks on the Pocket PRO. Don't forget that the battery on the Pocket PRO is User-Replaceable, not so on the 300. Pocket PRO has Text-To-Speech. Now, look at what comes with the device. You get a pouch with the 300... we give you a crush-resistant leather-like case that protects your unit and free ear buds.

That is all I am going to say... but this is a pretty easy decision based on value. We would love to welcome you to the Astak camp!

You need to welcome me into the Astak family because I bought the maroon Pocket Pro the other night at the ezreader.com website. Can't wait for it to get here!

It would have been nice to get the maroon one at Car Toys since they are doing the BooksOnBoard coupon too. But at least I was able to look at one in the store. That was so helpful. After looking at it I then went back to Borders to check out the Sony prs300 one more time. The Pocket Pro is set up better in my opinion. I like the # buttons and the whole look of the screen. Plus it comes with a nice case and charging adaptor unlike the Sony.

Hopefully I won't have too much trouble converting my .lit files that I already have into epub. Plus I just bought a dozen or more ebooks from Fictionwise. So I'll have my work cut out for me when I get the Pocket Pro in the mail!
