Angry oh no!

My reader fell off my desk onto an area rug, now it has all these verticle lines on the right side. I can still see the ebook underneath, but i'm SICK about these lines. I tried to take a picture but they didn't come out very well. I tried to do a hard reset, but that didn't seem to work. I am so bummed. I haven't even had this for a year. I read that someone got it repaired for $29 and my reader looks alot like the picture they posted, so I'm hoping maybe I'll have the same results. In the meantime is there anything else I should try?

Thanks!

Sounds suspiciously like a broken screen substrate but without a picture it hard to tell.

Can always try taking it apart and checking for loose connections

It's a hardware fault, almost without question. I'm afraid it'll have to go back to Sony for repair, and it won't be a warranty repair.

yeah today while at work, I couldn't stop thinking about this. I decided that my mission will be to find a new (to me) sony 505 on clearance or lightly used. When there's a will there's a way. I can't afford to buy one of the new models, nor do I really want to. And the crappy thing is, I was FINALLY off my reading slump and reading a good book. I guess I'll have to sit at the computer and finish it...GRRR!

Ewww, cucky! I'm so, so sorry that happened! I feel ur pain considering the mishap with my 505. If you go to Sony's website they let you put in your info and that lets you know if you qualify for the exchange; that's what I did when I dropped the lower half of my reader in the tub- I mean, when the cat knocked it into the tub . Mine doesn't qualify b/c of the water damage, but who knows? If you can get ur reader fixed for $30 I'd say go for it!

Sony, Kindle, nook.........it doesn't matter what brand, when something like this happens we all sympathize..........because we know it can happen to anyone.

Hope you get it repaired/replaced soon.

Thanks. I have been searching online, and the closest thing I have found aside from ebay was a returned/opened 505 at Frys for $209.99. They put it on hold for me while I ponder whether I should go for it or not. lol

If you live near a Sony store, you could ask them to put your name on the window display list. After the holidays, they offer their window display items to people on the list at good discounts. I got my 505 back in January 08 for 40% off. I didn't know about the window display list but had walked into the Sony store ready to pay full price for a new 505 and the salesman, to my delight offered one of their window displays to me for $170. And I ve used it ever since and love it.

That's a broken screen substrate, for sure. You can see the crack running diagonally at the lower right. It'll have to go back to Sony for repair.

Thanks everyone. I chatted with the sony store last night and they said they couldn't repair it, which is confusing...and this was AFTER I filled out that form and typed in my credit card info. But it looked like I had to send that form in and they wouldn't charge me until they actually recieved my 505, so hopefully I should be ok since I'm not sending them my reader. I went back and forth on what replacement to get, and finally today I bid on another 505 on ebay. Can't wait to get it!
