NVBackup 1.00 for newer Palms

http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=186018

I am happy to finally release version 1.00 of my free open source backup solution for NVFS-based Palms (T5, TX, LifeDrive, TE2, Treo 650). This should in theory be a more reliable backup because it directly accesses the files in the hidden drive where they are stored, instead of fetching data from RAM.

You will need an SD card to do the backups on, and ensure sufficient space.

You can schedule a daily (or, more precisely, nightly backup) and selective restore only some files from a backup set.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. NO WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND ARE PROVIDED. I do not recommend using this for medical, national security, or other such data (besides, if you did, you would want encryption, which is not provided.).

Full source code is available under the BSD license which allows commercial, closed-source use.

It works just fine for me. :-)

Other backup programs on NVFS devices can crash the device if the device contains an unstable program, but NVBackup uses a different way of reading data that seems to avoid such problems. Moreover, the restore gets you to more exactly the same system state than RescoBackup, I am told.

I'll definitely give it a try.

I saw that in the meantime v1.05 is available for download. But I couldn't find any revision history listing what changed from release to release.
Anyone knows anything about this?

Look in the "Applications" portion of the 1src forums, there are several lengthy threads from which you could figure out what is in which version. I suggest you use the most current one. I have been using NVBackup for a couple weeks, and it works great. (I also have Resco Backup (paid for) already so I still use that too. RBackup has a few functions that Alex's program doesn't have, but for a free solution, it's a great piece of software.
