Sony 505 is broken

All of a sudden, for no reason, my Sony 505 stopped working correctly.
None of the buttons work, except the turn page buttons for the right hand.
I can't use the menu button, the mark, the font, or the left hand turn page.
I tried a soft reset, it didn't help. In fact it made it worse because it changed the font from large to small and now I can't read a thing. Can't do the hard reset, I guess because pushing the mark button doesn't work. I called Sony last evening, they said that someone will call me in 4-5 business hours.

I'm encouraged to read about the good experiences others have had with Sony customer support. I was in the middle of a good book that I had downloaded from the library. I bought the Iphone version of the book, had to pay $20 for it and now I'm reading on that little screen, have to page turn every paragraph.
I miss my Sony.

Try an AC charge from the mains GameGirl. Your problems seem suspiciously like those I encountered early on with my 505 when I was relying on USB charging from the PC. USB charging doesn't work well for many of us, and the battery life indicator on the 505 is over-optimistic. Yup, I'd suggest a good mains charge overnight and a hard re-set if that doesn't immediately do the trick. Let us know how you get on. Good luck. Neil

Thanks Neil. I wish I had read this post before mailing the reader to Sony.
I've had the reader 1 year and always used the USB to charge it. I don't
think I even have a regular charger, although I could have probably used my ipod charger.

Sony sent me an email with the address to mail it for an exchange. So I guess they don't plan to repair it. The address is Texas, I'm in Virginia, so even with upgraded shipping it won't get there until next week (Monday). So it looks like I will be without my reader for a couple of weeks. I read that some people were sent a new reader before Sony even received their old one, but from the sound of the email they sent me, that doesn't seem to be the plan.

Sure am glad that I bought the extended warranty.

Sent my Sony reader to Sony for an exchange. It left Virginia on Wednesday,
spent the night in Tennessee Thursday night, now it is in Dallas, Texas.
Monday it will make it to Laredo to the exchange facility. How long until the exchange makes it back to Virginia? In the exchange paperwork they wanted everything that came with it. So I included the cover and the USB charger.
Sure hope that I get those things back with the replacement. I sure miss my Sony, guess you can tell by this message.

Thanks, I still can't believe that it broke. I took such good care of it, never dropped it, I was so careful with it at all times. Hopefully the replacement will arrive soon and will last longer. I went with the Sony because of the easy transfer of books from the library. Wonder if the Kindle works with the library books?
